Carey Theological College is a Christian college located within the vibrant academic setting of UBC’s Vancouver campus. We are entering an exciting time of growth, with new theological graduate programs reaching international multi-ethnic Christian communities. In addition to our academic programs, we provide student residences and short- and long-term accommodation. Our facilities include a 150-unit, multi-building complex that requires a dedicated Facilities Supervisor to ensure operations run smoothly, efficiently, and safely.
Position Overview
The Facilities Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, security, and functionality of our buildings and grounds. This position requires a hands-on approach to maintenance and repairs while also coordinating contractors for specialized services. The ideal candidate will be a practical problem solver, technologically proficient, and skilled at managing others.
Responsibilities
- Building Maintenance & Repairs
– Perform routine drywall, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical repairs as skills allow.
– Schedule and coordinate contractors for specialized maintenance and major repairs.
– Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed to reduce downtime and emergency repairs.
– Work with IT to maintain security systems, access control, internet, and POS systems.
– Utilize facilities management software or a work order tracking system to manage requests and maintenance schedules. - Custodial & Grounds Management
– Coordinate housekeeping services.
– Oversee and maintain high standards of cleanliness across all facilities, including student rooms, apartments, common areas, and offices.
– Order and track inventory for janitorial, housekeeping, kitchen, and maintenance supplies.
– Manage vendor relationships for waste disposal and specialized cleaning services (e.g., carpet cleaning, window washing).
– Recruit and supervise grounds maintenance to keep outdoor areas clean and functional. - Safety & Security
– Maintain fire code compliance, evacuation procedures, and emergency response planning.
– Conduct fire drills and ensure fire safety equipment is in working order.
– Oversee building security, including key management and security incident reporting.
– Be on-call for emergency situations, including fire alarms or urgent security concerns.
Qualifications & Ideal Candidate Profile
We are seeking a practical and solutions-oriented individual who enjoys both hands-on work and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have:
- A background in facility maintenance, building operations, or a trade-related field.
- Strong technical skills, particularly in building repairs, maintenance, and basic IT troubleshooting.
- Experience managing custodial or maintenance teams and coordinating external vendors.
- Proficiency with facilities management software or work order tracking systems.
- Knowledge of fire safety, evacuation procedures, and emergency planning.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work in a multi-departmental team.
- A problem-solving mindset, able to work efficiently in a dynamic environment.
Reporting & Work Expectations
– Reports to Director of Operations.
– Available for on-call emergencies (fire alarms, security concerns, urgent maintenance).
– No formal certifications required, but relevant experience in maintenance, safety, or security is an asset.
