Carey Theological College is a Christian college located within the vibrant academic setting of UBC’s Vancouver campus. We are entering an exciting time of growth, with new theological graduate programs reaching international multi-ethnic Christian communities. In addition to our academic programs, we provide student residences and short- and long-term accommodation. Our facilities include a 150-unit, multi-building complex that requires a dedicated Facilities Supervisor to ensure operations run smoothly, efficiently, and safely.

Position Overview
The Facilities Supervisor plays a key role in maintaining the cleanliness, safety, security, and functionality of our buildings and grounds. This position requires a hands-on approach to maintenance and repairs while also coordinating contractors for specialized services. The ideal candidate will be a practical problem solver, technologically proficient, and skilled at managing others.

Responsibilities

  1. Building Maintenance & Repairs
    – Perform routine drywall, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and mechanical repairs as skills allow.
    – Schedule and coordinate contractors for specialized maintenance and major repairs.
    – Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are followed to reduce downtime and emergency repairs.
    – Work with IT to maintain security systems, access control, internet, and POS systems.
    – Utilize facilities management software or a work order tracking system to manage requests and maintenance schedules.
  2. Custodial & Grounds Management
    – Coordinate housekeeping services.
    – Oversee and maintain high standards of cleanliness across all facilities, including student rooms, apartments, common areas, and offices.
    – Order and track inventory for janitorial, housekeeping, kitchen, and maintenance supplies.
    – Manage vendor relationships for waste disposal and specialized cleaning services (e.g., carpet cleaning, window washing).
    – Recruit and supervise grounds maintenance to keep outdoor areas clean and functional.
  3. Safety & Security
    – Maintain fire code compliance, evacuation procedures, and emergency response planning.
    – Conduct fire drills and ensure fire safety equipment is in working order.
    – Oversee building security, including key management and security incident reporting.
    – Be on-call for emergency situations, including fire alarms or urgent security concerns.

Qualifications & Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking a practical and solutions-oriented individual who enjoys both hands-on work and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have:

  1. A background in facility maintenance, building operations, or a trade-related field.
  2. Strong technical skills, particularly in building repairs, maintenance, and basic IT troubleshooting.
  3. Experience managing custodial or maintenance teams and coordinating external vendors.
  4. Proficiency with facilities management software or work order tracking systems.
  5. Knowledge of fire safety, evacuation procedures, and emergency planning.
  6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work in a multi-departmental team.
  7. A problem-solving mindset, able to work efficiently in a dynamic environment.

Reporting & Work Expectations
– Reports to Director of Operations.
– Available for on-call emergencies (fire alarms, security concerns, urgent maintenance).
– No formal certifications required, but relevant experience in maintenance, safety, or security is an asset.
