We are accepting applications for a Facilities Supervisor at Central Learning Services (Sherwood Park) commencing April 28, 2025.
Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Facilities Supervisor oversees the operation of the School Division buildings, grounds, construction, maintenance, and security in accordance with applicable Federal, Provincial, and local codes, standards, and regulations.
This position requires post-secondary education - Certified Engineering Technology is an asset. Possession of one or more valid Alberta Journeyman Construction Trades Certificates is an asset - especially in Instrumentation & Building Automation Systems. Equivalencies will be considered.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years supervisory experience and experience in the maintenance of institutional, commercial or industrial facilities. The candidate will have extensive knowledge of computerized maintenance management programs and building automation systems. Computer literacy is essential, especially data management.
This role requires a highly motivated person who can work independently of direct supervision. The Facilities Supervisor must possess the ability to communicate orally and in writing effectively with staff at all levels, contractors, and suppliers. The proponent must be customer service oriented and skilled at managing competing priorities.
The Facilities Supervisor Shall
- Ensure Division school buildings are operated and maintained in a safe and sanitary manner. Complete all work in compliance with applicable regulations, Provincial and Federal Building Codes, Workers' Compensation, Occupation Health & Safety Legislation, Alberta Plumbing & Gas Code, Alberta Boiler Act, and the Canadian Electrical Code.
- Ensure maintenance staff follow EICS's Administrative Procedures, Safety Rules, Safe Work Procedures, and Safe Work Practices, and supervise and implement a suitable training program.
- Assign and supervise the activities of all permanent and casual maintenance personnel, ensuring high quality work, effective execution, and behaviour appropriate to a School Division.
- Complete performance evaluations of maintenance services staff as required, recommending to the Director of Facilities any staff alterations based on ability, cooperativeness, and seniority, consistent with budgetary provisions.
- Identify personnel requirements and employ staff and third-party contractors as needed to meet the operational and regulatory requirements of Elk Island Catholic Schools.
- Plan, schedule, and supervise the maintenance and repair work done on buildings, furniture and equipment, and grounds belonging to Elk Island Catholic Schools (EICS).
- Implement and continuously improve the preventative maintenance program, developing effective procedures and collecting, analysing, and acting on results to achieve maximum efficiency and longevity of Division assets.
- Operate the Maintenance Management Program (Asset Planner) to its fullest potential, ensuring service requests and preventative maintenance events are prioritized and completed effectively.
- Manage the key and access control system for Elk Island Catholic Schools. Disseminate and recover keys and access cards for third party contractors using the access control system.
- Ensure the effective operation of building systems, recommending changes and adjusting operating parameters using the building automation systems.
- Assist the Director in prioritizing and implementing major maintenance projects. Assist in site inspections, tender document reviews, progress reporting and documentation.
- Assist the Director with asset condition reports, grant applications, Board reports, Assurance Plans, and other documentation.
- Assist the Director in preparing and adhering to an annual budget for all aspects of the maintenance department.
- Resolve school administrator, teaching staff, and maintenance staff complaints related to the quality, operation, and maintenance of Division building systems.
