Job Overview

The Facilities Manager is responsible for overseeing building and property maintenance, ensuring that mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems operate efficiently. This role also focuses on cleanliness, safety, and compliance with local, provincial, and federal regulations. The Facilities Manager supervises the maintenance and housekeeping teams, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations while supporting a mental health environment that prioritizes client care and customer satisfaction. This role requires a proactive leader with strong organizational, problem-solving, and people management skills, dedicated to maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for both staff and clients.

Salary Range $75K – 105K

Key Responsibilities

Facility & Maintenance Management

  1. Oversee building and grounds maintenance, including waste disposal, recycling, security, and space management.
  2. Develop and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all critical building components.
  3. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  4. Lead capital and facilities planning to align with strategic objectives.
  5. Maintain the Fire Safety Plan, conducting both daily and annual reviews.
  6. Contract and oversee landscaping and snow removal services.
  7. Conduct facility inspections to ensure work (by staff or contractors) is completed to standard.
  8. Respond to emergencies or urgent facility issues and manage the consequences effectively.
  9. Maintain inventory and order for maintenance and housekeeping supplies.
  10. Manage contracts and service agreements for mechanical systems, HVAC, refrigeration, fire systems, pest control, and more.

Team Leadership & Compliance
  1. Supervise and lead the maintenance and housekeeping teams, ensuring responsibilities are met.
  2. Oversee recruitment, training, payroll, and performance management for department staff.
  3. Identify staff training and development needs through coaching and formal training.
  4. Foster a culture of safety and compliance, ensuring adherence to WorkSafe BC and emergency preparedness protocols (e.g., floods, fires, extreme weather).
  5. Engage with fire department, hydro, and other regulatory agencies as needed.

Financial & Project Management
  1. Provide input into the annual budget and work with the Director of Operations & Business Services to manage expenses.
  2. Prepare and issue tenders for contractor services.
  3. Compare and negotiate costs to maximize value for money.
  4. Plan and manage facility improvement projects, coordinating with contractors and stakeholders.
  5. Maintain records, reports, and compliance documentation as required.

Other Duties
  1. Ensure the company vehicle is properly maintained.
  2. Order housekeeping-related supplies.
  3. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Additional Qualifications Include
  1. Hands-on experience in trades.
  2. Strong computer skills with proficient use of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.).
  3. Excellent organizational, strategic, planning, and implementation skills.
  4. Excellent presentation, writing, and verbal communication skills.
  5. Ability to anticipate and take initiative to work independently or collaboratively as needed.
  6. Good financial and business awareness.
  7. Facility planning to include short and long-range capital plans.
  8. Experience in managing third-party service providers.
  9. Fluency in information technology, financial, and other standard organizational systems.

Work Conditions
  1. 24/7 availability may be required.
  2. Physical ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  3. Travel to the site, and off-site locations will be required.
  4. Safety equipment will be required, e.g., steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
  5. Hazards associated with the trade.
  6. Work both indoors and outdoors.
  7. Will be exposed to construction sites.
