LOCATION: Remote Long Range Radar Sites located across Nunavut, North West Territories and Labrador
SECURITY CLEARANCE: Secret
POSITION TYPE: Permanent, 6x6 Rotation (6 weeks on, followed by 6 weeks off for rest and travel)
REPORTS TO: Site Supervisor

Scope
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting the serviceability of the sites, the power generation and electrical distribution systems, along with their related equipment at the Long Range Radar (LRR) sites and the Short Range Radar (SRR) sites.
What You’ll Do
- Perform scheduled and corrective maintenance on power generation and electrical distribution systems at NWS radar sites.
- Conduct diagnostic tests, problem-solving, and repairs on diesel engines and electronic equipment.
- Install and maintain components as per implementation instructions.
- Interface with Nasittuq's Logistics Support System (LSS) staff and the NWS Command Centre to ensure smooth operations.
- Travel between adjacent LRR and SRR radar sites as required.
Who You Are:
- Certification/Licences: Provincial or Territorial licensed Journeyman with post-journeyman experience as a Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic or equivalent. Military QL 5 is accepted as an equivalency. Diesel Endorsement is an asset.
- Experience: 5 years of hands-on field experience maintaining diesel engines and electronic systems.
- Skills: Proficient in the use of diagnostic tools and equipment specific to diesel engines and electronics. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to prioritize tasks. Strong troubleshooting, communication, and report writing skills.
- Cross-Cultural Skills: Must be willing and able to work in a cross-cultural environment while supporting Nasittuq’s mission and commitment to Inuit employment.
- Remote Arctic Environment: Comfortable working in remote, Arctic conditions and in a team-oriented environment.
