How do you fit in?

We are seeking an Exploration Geophysicist for the various basins of Colombia, with the position based in Calgary. The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team to evaluate, quantify, and communicate the prospectivity of this exploration focused area. As a skilled integrative geophysicist, you will provide thoughtful data analysis with 2D / 3D interpretations of complex geological settings, integrated with advanced seismic techniques.

What you will do :

  • Play a key role in advancing the Company strategy by orchestrating the addition of new reserves, and ultimately production, through prospect generation and exploration.
  • Provide detailed calibration and interpretation of seismic products to characterize the geological model of exploration prospects, including volumetric and risk characterization.
  • Collaboratively define, communicate and execute work within a multi-disciplinary team as required to advance exploration concepts to drill ready opportunities.
  • Develop and present interpretations and recommendations to senior management and technical teams.
  • Provide geophysical technical support to the group’s Acquisition & Divestiture (A&D) evaluations, when required.
  • Provide technical guidance and interpretation support for seismic acquisition and processing projects.
  • Support drilling operations by providing timely and accurate geophysical insights.

What you must have / be :

  • Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in Geophysics, Geology or a related field.
  • Proven oil finder with minimum of 10 years’ interpretation experience in both structural and stratigraphic plays.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and communicate rock physics-based inversions to the uncertainty and constraints it provides to prospects.
  • Strong skills to calibrate a wide range of 2D and 3D seismic data and processing to existing geological control.
  • Pre-Stack Depth Migration (PSDM) processing oversight and inversion experience.
  • Diverse background of interpretation in a variety of geologic settings.
  • Strong collaborator, working with other disciplines to produce high quality integrated Geological-Geophysical Engineering (G&G&E) assessments.
  • Self-motivated and results-orientated individual, focused on providing integrated exploration concepts, with ability to advance them to drillable opportunities.
  • Understanding of seismic acquisition and processing.
  • A proven reputation for technical competence, thoroughness in approach, and success in generating prospects.
  • Proficiency in seismic interpretation software such as Petrel, or similar.
  • Beneficial, but not required : International oil and gas experience; APEGA professional member.

Where you’ll be working :

This position is located in our Corporate Headquarters at 2700 Eighth Ave Place, West Tower in Calgary, Alberta T2P 1G1, Canada.

Parex has an in-office work schedule Monday to Thursday (in support of fostering team integration and cross-functional collaboration), with the option to work remotely from home on Friday.

Occasional travel to Colombia will be required, approximately 1 to 3 times per year.
