The Role
The Executive VP (EVP) of Commercial and Business Banking is responsible for leading Vancity’s small business and corporate commercial business banking strategy to drive growth, profitability, and an exceptional member experience. This role focuses on delivering innovative financial solutions that drive sustainable growth and operational excellence, while integrating our impact pillars: co-operatives and community; climate; equity and reconciliation; and affordable housing. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), this position plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing strategic initiatives aligned with Vancity’s mission, business objectives, and commitment to social impact.
Your key responsibilities involve:
- Strategic Development & Delivery
- Design and lead the implementation of a small business banking and corporate commercial strategy to achieve Vancity’s growth and financial targets.
- Identify and leverage market opportunities to expand the portfolio of business banking products both lending and deposit, with a focus on areas such as small business, commercial real estate, impact lending, and sustainable financial non-real estate solutions.
- Ensure business banking initiatives align with member needs by adopting data-driven, results-oriented strategies that deliver measurable outcomes.
- Operational Excellence & Financial Performance
- Optimize business banking operations by streamlining processes, enhancing service delivery, and driving efficiencies that contribute to profitability and member satisfaction.
- Monitor and manage financial performance to achieve revenue, growth, and cost-efficiency benchmarks.
- Implement continuous improvement practices to enhance product offerings, reduce inefficiencies, and optimize member experiences.
- People Leadership & Talent Development
- Build and lead a high-performing, results-oriented team capable of responding to evolving member needs with innovative, impactful solutions.
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning, ensuring alignment with Vancity’s strategic objectives that include proactive outreach to existing members and new prospects.
- Establish a culture of change agility underpinned by clear expectations and mutual accountability across the division.
- Invest in training, coaching, and career development to enhance team capabilities and drive employee engagement.
- Member-Centric Solutions & Relationship Building
- Advance Vancity’s four impact pillars: co-operatives and community; climate; equity and reconciliation; and affordable housing. Coordinate with the Chief Member Impact and Experience Officer to ensure alignment in these areas.
- Develop and strengthen relationships with business members, leveraging insights to tailor banking products and services that align with their financial needs.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with teams such as Product, Marketing, Data Analytics, and Member Experience to ensure that business banking strategies deliver optimal outcomes for members.
- Provide holistic solutions to business members that include their personal banking and wealth management needs.
- Act as an advocate for business members within Vancity, ensuring their voices inform decision-making and strategic priorities.
- Risk Management & Compliance
- Implement proactive risk management practices to align business banking operations with Vancity’s risk appetite and regulatory requirements.
- Continuously assess risks to ensure compliance while supporting sustainable growth and protecting Vancity’s reputation.
- Uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethical decision-making in all business dealings.
- Data-Driven Performance Measurement
- Define and track KPIs to monitor business outcomes, such as member satisfaction, revenue growth, market share, and risk management.
- Leverage data analytics to inform strategic decisions, drive continuous improvement, and enhance member value.
- Regularly report to the CEO and ELT on financial and operational performance, providing actionable insights and recommendations.

Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field; an MBA or equivalent postgraduate qualification is preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in business banking, financial services, or a related sector, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role focused on business growth and financial outcomes.
- Skills: Strong strategic thinker with expertise in data analysis, financial performance management, risk assessment, and member-centric service delivery.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of business banking products, industry trends, regulatory compliance, and competitive dynamics.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Member Satisfaction Score: Maintain a high satisfaction score, reflecting the value of business banking services.
- Net Promoter Score: Maintain a high level of promoters to achieve the desired NPS score for business banking services.
- Revenue & Profitability Growth: Achieve targets for revenue and profitability from business banking products.
- New Business Account Onboarding: Increase and deepen the relationship of new business account members to drive market share growth.
- Operational Efficiency: Improve cost-to-serve and turnaround times, optimizing profitability and the member experience.
- Risk Compliance: Maintain regulatory compliance with minimal risk incidents.
In accordance with BC’s Pay Transparency Act, the expected base salary range for this role is $288,000 – $432,000 plus bonus and benefits commensurate with experience.
