Position Description:
The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the UR Pride Centre for Sexuality and Gender Diversity, and for the execution of the organization’s strategic plan.
The Executive Director is responsible for the management of all staff and any volunteers working with the organization.
Reporting:
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, through the Chair.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of the current and historical issues relating to Gender and Sexually Diverse individuals and communities;
- Knowledge of Non-Profit governance;
- Knowledge of anti-oppression, anti-colonialism, and feminism;
- Preference will be given to candidates with grant writing experience, including a solid understanding of KPIs, outcomes/outputs and program evaluation;
- Organizational skills;
- Public speaking skills;
- Verbal & written communication and computer skills;
- Able to work with a team and alone;
- Able to work flexible hours;
- Media relations;
- Knowledge of Google Products and Microsoft Office Suite;
- Knowledge of Quickbooks or other accounting software;
- Lived experience as a Two-Spirit, Indigiqueer, BlaQ/BlaQueer or QTBIPOC person will be considered an asset;
- Lived experience as a queer or trans person in Saskatchewan will be considered an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and/or significant related experience in the field(s) of social work, human justice, human service, business administration and/or public administration;
- Experience as an Executive Director or Manager in a non-profit setting;
- Crisis-management skills;
- Bookkeeping skills;
- Leadership qualities;
- Mediation and conflict resolution skills;
- French-language skills.

Responsibilities:
Board of Directors
- Follow the directions of the Board of Directors.
- Carry out the implementation of Board policies and procedures.
- Serve as the liaison between Board Members as required.
- Provide reports as required by the Board and its committees.
- Attend committee meetings and Board meetings.
- Advise the Board when necessary.
- Guide the Strategic Planning process with the board.
- Liaising with the Board and/or HR Committee regarding employee relations.
Financial & Organizational Management
- Develop and submit annual budgets to the Board for review and approval.
- Monitor the annual budget to ensure that expenditures are appropriate and within spending limits.
- Complete regular bookkeeping and financial record keeping when required.
- Submit large expenditures, as defined in the contract, to the Board for approval prior to expenditure.
- Apply for new grants when the opportunities arise, in cooperation with the Board of Directors.
- Ensure compliance with the Canada Revenue Agency and the Information Services Corporation of Saskatchewan.
- Oversee the appointment and retention of an auditor or reviewer when required according to By-laws.
- Maintain non-profit corporation status for the organization.
- Ensure quality evaluation of programs, services and well-being of the organization.
- Ensure quality external relationship building and networking, and maintain strong working relationships with external agencies, individuals, governments and groups.
Personnel
- Ability to use human resource management software effectively.
- Coordinate and support the Centre's workforce, including volunteers, to ensure the organization runs smoothly and is consistent with Board policy and anti-oppressive frameworks.
- The Executive Director is in charge of hiring, supervising, disciplining, and, if required, termination of all staff.
- The Executive Director will assist the Board in regularly updating policies and job descriptions for the Staff and Board.
- Ensure internal meetings are held regularly and any concerns or questions are raised and dealt with in a timely and professional manner.
- Ensure orientation is provided for new volunteers, Board Members and Staff.
- Fill gaps in programming or report to the board of directors if staff and volunteers are not adequately providing services.
- Direct and assist program staff in developing and implementing education and support programs where needed.
- Strive to maintain an anti-oppressive and radically supportive work environment for all staff.
Member & Community Services
- Engage in direct consultation with membership as necessary when developing programs or services.
- When time allows, attend relevant community events and/or activities hosted by other 2SLGBTQ+ organizations.
- Track relevant services in the area and make referrals to them when necessary.
- Keep track of national trends in Gender and Sexually Diverse service provision to understand where the Centre can grow.
General
- Answer emails, phone calls, and walk-in requests in a timely manner.
- Oversee that resources and files are kept in an organized fashion.
- Maintain positive working relationships with campus and community groups with similar mandates.
- Prepare public relations materials as necessary and maintain a press kit.
- Ensure that the members and the public are aware of ongoing projects within the organization.
- Provide leadership to the Centre staff and volunteers in maintaining a positive work environment.
- Promote a positive relationship with Membership, the Board, URSU, Student Affairs, University of Regina students, faculty, and staff.
- Monitor the Centre's physical spaces and ensure that regular repair, maintenance, and cleaning are undertaken.
- Work within an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, anti-colonialist and feminist framework.
Hours of Work & Salary:
This is a full-time, salaried position at the equivalent of 37.5 hours/week for a 6-month term appointment. The set hours of work may vary depending on weekly activities; however, the Executive Director is expected to ensure that the office and lounge are open from Monday to Friday, 10am—4pm.
These hours will be flexible for a University of Regina student who needs to adjust hours to fit a class schedule.
Remuneration will follow the UR Pride Centre Compensation Policy. The starting salary range for this position is $58,500 to $63,275 per year.
The board expects the Executive Director position to be renewed or posted after this initial six-month term.
