Tourism Harrison River Valley is looking to hire a contractor for a 14-month parental leave coverage as Executive Director. The Executive Director will play a key leadership role, overseeing the overall management of the organization. The Executive Director will work closely with stakeholders, community leaders, government agencies, and tourism partners to promote the region, develop strategic tourism initiatives, and ensure the long-term sustainability and growth of tourism in the area. This role requires an individual who is passionate about tourism, community engagement, and environmental stewardship.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

1. Organizational Relationships
The successful candidate will report to the Board of Directors and coordinate with staff, local businesses, Visitor Centre, District of Kent, local Indigenous Communities, Village of Harrison Hot Springs, Fraser Valley Regional District, Destination BC, Fraser Valley Destination Management Council.

2. Key Responsibilities
– Leadership & Strategy: Provide visionary leadership and develop strategic plans to promote and grow tourism in the Harrison River Valley.
– Operations Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring smooth delivery of tourism services and initiatives.
– Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with local businesses, government agencies, Indigenous communities, tourism operators, and regional stakeholders.
– Marketing, Promotion and Destination Management: Lead the creation and implementation of marketing campaigns, including digital, print, and media outreach to attract visitors and raise awareness of the region.
– Financial Management: Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and resource allocation to ensure fiscal responsibility and growth.
– Fundraising & Grant Management: Seek funding opportunities, develop relationships with donors, and oversee grant applications to support tourism development projects.
– Community Engagement: Foster a collaborative environment among local communities, ensuring that tourism development aligns with the values and interests of residents.
– Sustainability & Growth: Advocate for responsible tourism practices, ensuring the region’s natural and cultural resources are preserved for future generations.

3. Required Qualifications
– Proven experience in a senior leadership role, ideally in the tourism, hospitality, or non-profit sectors.
– Strong understanding of tourism marketing, community engagement, and economic development strategies.
– Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
– Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, fundraising, and resource management.
– A passion for sustainable tourism practices and environmental stewardship.
– Demonstrated success in leading teams, managing operations, and achieving strategic goals.
– A deep connection to or appreciation for the Harrison River Valley region is a plus.
– A degree or diploma in tourism management, business administration, or a related field is preferred.
– Proficient in Microsoft Office Programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and OneDrive.
– Software expertise such as Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Lightroom would be beneficial.
– Must understand e-mail campaign platforms such as SurveyMonkey and MailChimp.
– Must understand Social Media Marketing and event pages.
– Experience with Trello or other project management tools is an asset.
– Experience with WordPress is an asset.
– Ability to be creative and problem solve.

A 14-month contract must be available to work weekends for events and activities in the Harrison River Valley. This is an in-office position. There may be remote opportunities available for preparatory work. This position will be available 5 days per week starting in March.

This position’s salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, ranging from $55,000 to $68,000.
