The Executive Director candidate search for North Point Douglas Women’s Centre is being facilitated by Associate Executive Director, Kris Beaune from our partner agency, North End Women’s Centre.

OVERVIEW

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides leadership, oversight and direction to the Centre and plays a crucial role in achieving our goal of empowering and supporting the community.

You are a skilled non-profit professional with a strategic mindset, advocacy experience, and outstanding leadership and financial management abilities. You lead with empathy and compassion and prioritize community to amplify their voices. Your perspective is trauma informed and decolonial. You prioritize creating a secure, stable, safe and sustainable environment for the community and your team.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

As the Executive Director, you will provide leadership to the centre and oversee the financial and administrative operations, grants and funding administration, human resource management, community building and engagement, organizational sustainability and reporting. Your role will ensure the organization's policies and practices reflect a community-centered perspective and you will be crucial to the stability, success and sustainability of the organization long term while ensuring the centre operates effectively and financial objectives are met.

Leadership & Organizational Development

You will manage effective day to day operations of the organization and its staff in line with guiding principles, values, policies, and team structure.

Financial Management

You will manage the organization's finances with a focus on secured funding and sustainability and will ensure strong financial controls and management across the organization.

Community Engagement and Advocacy

You will represent the organization in the community and build strategic partnerships with other organizations, government agencies, community and stakeholders. You will advocate for the organization to fulfil our mission and vision.

Tracking and Reporting

You will provide oversight, monitoring, and reporting to stakeholders and the board.

Board Relations and Governance

You will provide regular updates and reports to the Board of Directors and will collaborate with the Board on strategic decisions and policy development.

What you bring
Your Education and Experience:

  • You have a post secondary education in a relevant field of study, such as human resources, inner city studies, women and gender studies, organizational, or non-profit management or social services. A combination of education and professional or lived experience may be considered.
  • You have at least three years experience in non-profit leadership including responsibility for human resource, financial and operational management.
  • You are experienced in communications and conflict resolution including working with Indigenous communities, marginalized groups, and vulnerable people.
  • You are experienced in program/project development, coordination, and evaluation.

Your Knowledge and Understanding:

  • You understand the Point Douglas community and NPDWC including our history, mission, and messaging.
  • You understand colonial and trauma-informed practice including the historical and present contexts and experiences of First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities in Canada.
  • You have a strong understanding of trauma-informed practice, crisis management, suicide prevention and mental health first aid.
  • You have a strong understanding of harm-reduction and crisis planning/reaction approaches (or willingness to certify).
  • You have knowledge of the impacts of patriarchy, misogyny and colonialism as they relate to poverty, addictions, violence, mental health and dependency on women.
  • You understand and can assist community in accessing the resources available to women experiencing poverty, houselessness, domestic violence, mental health and/or addictions.

Your Skills and Abilities:

  • You are skilled in collaborative problem-solving.
  • You have strong computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and other team and information management platforms.
  • You are a strong writer with excellent grammar and copy-editing skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • You are an excellent verbal communicator with strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • You are an active listener with a high degree of emotional intelligence.
  • You are organized, can delegate and have a strong understanding of financial and human resource management to run an effective organization.

  • You think critically, analyze, evaluate, problem-solve and have sound judgement.
  • You are open-minded, action and dialogue oriented.
  • You adapt to various challenges and remain accessible and flexible to respond to communities needs while managing multiple projects, meeting deadlines, and exercising sound judgment in high pressure situations, while not compromising attention to detail.
  • You are organized and strong in time management and can manage multiple projects and competing priorities.
  • You have strong financial management skills.

What we offer

Annual Salary Range: $78,000-$87,750; 37.5 hours per week + health benefits (employer matched pension coming soon).
