Role
Reporting to the Assistant Deputy Minister of the Strategic and Business Services Division, the Executive Director, Data, Analytics, and Business Services (DABS) is responsible for providing strategic oversight, advice and assistance to the Advanced Education’s (AE) Minister, Deputy Minister, and Executive Team to deliver on the Minister’s mandate and Government of Alberta priorities.
The Executive Director, DABS will be responsible for management and governance of the ministry’s data assets, forecasting, analytics, and research as well as the design of innovative data and analytics tools to support policy development, evaluation of system performance, good governance and performance-based funding decisions. The Executive Director will also oversee the provision of business services including business continuity and emergency response planning, facilities management, procurement, contracts and grants administration, records management and Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) coordination.
The Executive Director, DABS will require a collaborative leader and partner to establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The Executive Director will provide fully substantiated advice and recommendations on sensitive and complex strategic issues to senior officials that have the potential for significant impact on decisions pertaining to Alberta Advanced Education and the provision of post-secondary education and training in the province. The Executive Director will also represent AE on cross-ministry and external committees and working groups.
As the successful candidate, using excellent professional judgement is essential given the sensitive nature of information dealt with and the often-conflicting priorities, perspectives, timing, and requirements of multiple stakeholders and partners. An understanding of the post-secondary and adult learning landscape in Alberta and other jurisdictions, as well as the ability to work successfully with diverse stakeholders including industry, institutions and other ministries, will be key to achieving the Ministry’s strategic priorities.
Qualifications
Your background includes extensive related senior leadership experience in a complex organization. You bring expertise in data systems, forecasting, analytics and research, and packaging complex material to communicate meaningful strategic advice and recommendations for senior and elected officials. You have a demonstrated track record in using systems thinking and qualitative and quantitative data to formulate innovative, evidence-based solutions for service delivery and policy challenges. Proven strengths in leading complex initiatives, stakeholder collaboration, and building a positive work environment to engage and support teams to achieve results are essential.
A related degree is preferred. Knowledge of legislation and regulations pertaining to Advanced Education, and Government of Alberta systems, communication and decision-making processes, and emergency management and corporate business services would be an asset. Project Management Professional designation is an asset.
Salary
$5,082.46 - $6,679.30 bi-weekly ($132,652 - $174,329 yearly)
