Job Overview

The Executive Director (ED) is a contract position contingent on continued funding from the City of Victoria and other sources. The initial contract term is one year, following the completion of a three-month probationary period, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability. The NPNA seeks an experienced, passionate, and community-driven Executive Director (ED) to lead our organization’s growth and strengthen its impact. The ED will oversee NPNA’s strategic planning, financial management, and daily operations while collaborating with the Board, staff, and residents to enhance programming, secure grant funding, and explore new opportunities to support the North Park community. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in non-profit leadership, grant management, community engagement, and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership: Lead the development and execution of NPNA’s strategic plan alongside the Board, setting and achieving goals that expand the organization’s capacity and community impact.
  2. Grant Writing and Fundraising: Lead grant application efforts, oversee reporting, identify new funding sources, and maintain relationships with existing funders.
  3. Financial Oversight: Manage budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting to ensure NPNA’s sustainability and responsible growth.
  4. Partnerships: Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, local government, and other stakeholders.
  5. Support Board and Community Initiatives: Collaborate with the Board to support community initiatives and liaise with City of Victoria Councillors and staff to advocate for neighbourhood needs.
  6. Capacity Building and Event Coordination: Expand the NPNA’s programs and operations, including pursuing a permanent community center, and assist in planning and executing events in collaboration with the Community Engagement Coordinator.
  7. Alignment with City Plans: Consult and ensure that NPNA projects and goals align with the City of Victoria's plans and strategies.
  8. Staff and Volunteer Management: Manage and support existing staff and volunteers.
  9. Administrative Oversight: Monitor expenses related to the Community Development portfolio, participate in annual budget development and submit required reports for events, community development, and funding.

Qualifications

  1. Relevant post-secondary education (e.g. community planning and development, public administration, social science or other relevant field).
  2. Minimum three years related experience in a leadership role within a non-profit or community organization, ideally with experience in managing or working closely with a board of directors.
  3. Demonstrated success in securing funding through grants, donations, or other fundraising efforts.
  4. Proven ability to manage and engage with social media platforms to promote programs, events, and community initiatives.
  5. Experience with budgeting, financial planning, and basic accounting to ensure responsible allocation of funds.
  6. Ability to connect with diverse community members, foster partnerships, and build relationships with residents, businesses, and local government.
  7. Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans that align with the organization’s mission and objectives, along with the ability to set measurable goals.
  8. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to represent the organization professionally in public, with media, and in presentations.
  9. Willingness to adapt to evolving community needs and handle varied responsibilities in a dynamic, small, non-profit environment.
  10. Ability to provide a clear criminal record check as a condition of employment.

Additional Information

  1. This is a one-year contract position, which can be renewed based on performance and funding availability.
  2. Payroll deductions are not provided. Contractors are responsible for managing their own tax remittances.
  3. The position includes two weeks of paid time off annually.
  4. Extended health care benefits are not included, as this is a contract role. The hourly rate has been adjusted to account for the absence of benefits.
