Event Attendant (Neighbourhood Development Office)

Job Status: Temporary Part-Time

Pay & Grade: $20.33 to $21.04 Hourly
Grade/Band: 2

Hours of Work: Up to 24 Hours per week

Initial location: Kitchener City Hall

Posting period: April 10, 2025 to April 24, 2025 (at 6:00pm)

Overview: Coordinates and supports events and programs led by the Neighbourhood Development Office to make it easier for residents to come together and do great things in their neighbourhoods. Prepare for neighbourhood events and programs including set up and take down of chairs, tents, information boards, ice cream bike, market kids and distributing other Love My Hood materials and resources to residents and volunteers.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates neighbourhood event and outreach setup. Works with staff, community partners, vendors and venues regarding setup for events, street teams and other activities in parks and open spaces.
  • Performs event and program set up and tear down (tables, chairs, pop up tents) and transports Love My Hood materials (printed resources, SWAG, other promotional items) to the event or program location and returning the items to their storage location.
  • Arranges transportation of the Ice Cream bike to and from the route locations, either riding to the location, or coordinating with the program staff to have the bike transported by staff or a contractor.
  • Assists staff with general administrative tasks such as mail outs, assembling prize packages and certificates for internal and external programs and events.
  • Identifies problems with event equipment and notifies program staff.
  • Acts as street team in underserved wards and geographic areas, which involves at least 2 staff walking on foot or bike, using a script to talk with local residents, businesses and community partners to promote the Love My Hood Matching Grant and encourage grant applications.
  • Attends Kitchener in Bloom events throughout the spring and summer, involving event set up, take down, handing out resources at display booth, packaging envelopes and recognition materials.
  • Attends Volunteer Appreciation and Recognition events, involving event set up, take down, handing out resources at display booth, packaging envelopes and recognition materials.
  • Promotes the Love My Hood branded Ice Cream Bike, involving at least 2 staff who take turns riding the bike and walking on foot, handing out resources in parks, trails, around community centres.
  • Collaborates with staff to arrange all aspects of the Ice Cream bike, including scheduling transportation for the bike, sourcing frozen treats, freezing treats, ensuring adequate supply of hand out materials and all other supplies necessary for a successful event.
  • Calls local businesses and community partners in underrepresented wards and geographic areas, to promote the Love My Hood grant using a script provided by NDO team.
  • Calls local businesses and community partners about getting a Love My Hood poster put up at bulletin/notice boards, dropping off posters and recording it in a spreadsheet.
  • Takes action to deal with incidents, problems and emergencies; contacts appropriate staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Equivalent to partial secondary school education
  • 3 months of related experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willing to work various hours to accommodate the rental bookings/special events schedule, including evenings, weekends or statutory holidays
  • Able to perform physical requirements of the position e.g. lifting weights up to 20 lbs; and, prolonged periods of standing and walking
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record
