Event Attendant (Culture & Entertainment)
Job Status: Continuous Part-Time
Pay & Grade: $20.33 to $21.04 Hourly

Hours of Work: Up to 24 Hours per week

Overview: As an Event Attendant, you'll play a key role in making sure events at City-owned venues run smoothly. You'll help set up and take down tables, chairs, sound systems, projectors, stages, and other event equipment. You'll also keep the venue clean and tidy. During events, you'll be the go-to person for rental groups, vendors, and guests, ensuring everything goes off without a hitch.
Responsibilities:
- Works on-site for setups, during events, and teardowns, often requiring 12–16-hour workdays with constant activity.
- Provides assistance to facility users and the public during events.
- Enforces City policies or safety/health regulations in accordance with risk assessment plans.
- Identifies, troubleshoots, and problem-solves technical and operational issues throughout events (e.g., sound, projector, staging/table setups), including adjusting site plans based on on-site conditions (e.g., environmental, physical conditions), as appropriate.
- Refers any non-compliance with applicable legislation, by-laws, codes, permits, policies (as per risk assessments) to the project lead or Supervisor for appropriate action.
- In the absence of the Event Operations Technician, acts as the main point of contact for rental groups, vendors, and occupants as required.
- Prepares sound system, lighting, video projectors, and staging equipment for client use; instructs clients on operation as needed.
- Mops floors (dry and wet) prior to rental setup.
- Wipes down tables.
- Monitors venue compliance (e.g., fire codes, alcohol regulations, security issues) and alerts staff or authorities or takes action as directed and/or appropriate.
- Assists Event Operations Technicians with other event-related setup duties such as assembly and disassembly of stage equipment, running cables, installing signage, tents, fences, and barricades.
- Provides customer service to renters and the public using the venue.
- Controls access points by means of ticket scanning or wrist banding.
- Assists in monitoring crowd behavior.
- Cleans and disinfects the facility as required.
- Receives and responds to calls throughout the day/event to clean up spills and general mess.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Equivalent to partial secondary school education.
- 3 months of related experience.
- Ability to work shifts including weekends, evenings and statutory holidays.
- Smart serve certification.
- Good customer service and communication skills.
- Must be able to work for prolonged hours of physical activity, including walking, standing, and working in awkward positions for extended periods. Some lifting and climbing are required when working with a ladder.
- Ability to lift and carry weights up to 50 lbs. such as buckets of water, tables, chairs, stage decks, fencing, and other event equipment.
- Ability to work if required 12-16 hours per day during a major event for set up, monitoring, and tear down.
- Ability to work on ladders up to 15 feet; occasionally uses scaffolding.
- Ability to work outdoors, exposing the incumbent to inclement weather conditions (e.g., extreme cold, heat, rain, snow, dampness, and freezing rain) without an option to work indoors.
- Working knowledge of production equipment is considered an asset.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
