The Estimator/Architect will collaborate closely with project management, design, and construction teams to prepare precise cost estimates for diverse architectural projects. Leveraging your architectural expertise, you will evaluate project scope and design documents to ensure estimates align with client expectations and project timelines. This role involves assessing project feasibility, managing budgets, and contributing strategically during project planning and execution phases.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating & Cost Analysis:
Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for architectural projects, covering labor, materials, and overhead.
Review architectural drawings and specifications to evaluate project requirements and cost factors.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, and subcontractors to create comprehensive estimates.
Analyze bid proposals, ensuring alignment with project specifications and client needs.
Offer cost advice on value engineering, alternative materials, and construction methods to optimize budgets.
Architectural Design & Planning:
Lead the preparation and review of architectural designs and construction documents.
Ensure designs meet aesthetic and functional goals while maintaining cost efficiency.
Provide input on project feasibility from design and budget perspectives.
Ensure compliance with local building codes, zoning laws, and environmental regulations.
Project Coordination & Communication:
Collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to align costs with design intent.
Advise clients on cost-saving strategies and assist in budget-aligned design adjustments.
Support project schedules, monitor progress, and adjust estimates as needed.
Aid in cost control throughout the construction phase.
Documentation & Reporting:
Maintain organized records of estimates, contracts, and critical project documents.
Provide periodic reports on budgets, costs, and project progress.
Update and manage estimating databases and historical cost records for future reference.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in architectural design, cost estimating, or construction project management.
Proficiency in architectural design software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp) and estimating software (CostX, ProEst).
In-depth knowledge of construction materials, methods, and current market prices.
Comprehensive understanding of building codes, zoning laws, and environmental regulations.
Proven ability to analyze complex project documents and provide precise estimations.
Strong leadership and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
Certification in estimating (e.g., AACE, RICS) is advantageous.
