The core function of Canstar Restorations is to provide emergency response and rebuild/restoration services to residential, commercial and industrial clients who have suffered property damage from water, fire, wind, weather, trauma, vehicle impacts and many other perils. Canstar also provides hazardous materials management and removal such as asbestos, mold, lead, fuel and other such materials/substances.

Position Overview

This position will work closely with the Project Management team to ensure compliance with insurer program compliance and prepare insurer required estimate reports. An estimator communicates with a variety of stakeholders in the organization to ensure photos and project data are correct in Xactimate and then collects information as needed. This position requires someone who is a strong communicator, highly organized and possesses significant relevant experience working in the property damage restoration and insurance industry. This role will also assist with other Canstar Group of Companies projects as needed.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Review, translate and input Project Manager generated narrative scopes into Xactimate
  • Review photos and extrapolate work done on site into Xactimate line items
  • Utilize Docusketch for pre and post demo walkthrough
  • Review subtrade quotes and invoices for translation into Xactimate line items
  • Prepare complete EME, ABA, CON, REP estimates
  • Liaise promptly and respectfully with project teams, and other internal stakeholders, on estimates to ensure insurer program compliance
  • Liaise promptly and respectfully with external stakeholders on estimate revisions, questions, explanations, via web portals as appropriate
  • Provide project teams with clear and concise data on completed project margins (EME/ABA/CON phases specifically)
  • Reverse emergency estimates to create complete repair estimates/scopes
  • Read and understand HMA reports
  • Read and understand completed moisture readings to extrapolate equipment and affected areas
  • Update Estimating WIP with appropriate notes on delays, enter accurate dates
  • Follow up with project teams to ensure timely estimate reviews
  • Escalate non-responses to appropriate territory manager for action
  • Prepare reports to specific insurer protocols based on completed estimates
  • Review and understand insurer protocols

Health and Safety
  • Ensure that self and others adhere to Canstar’s health and safety practices and procedures
  • Ensure good housekeeping is kept to perform work safely and efficiently
  • Understand safety policies and protocols
  • Ensure that self and others on site are wearing all required PPE, when required

Who We Are Looking For

A personable and well-organized individual with a strong analytical and administrative background is a perfect match for a Canstar Estimator. Experience working in a fast-paced environment focused on internal customer service will have you off on the right foot for this position. Other important attributes of a future Canstar Estimator are:
  • Thorough knowledge of insurer protocols
  • Proficient in set up, dimensions and scopes
  • Strong utilization of shortcut keys
  • Strong knowledge of 50+ categories in Xactimate
  • Utilize claim info, parameters, tokens, and thought is given to opening statements on each estimate.
  • Thorough understanding of room ceilings, properties, missing walls, variables etc.
  • Able to correct system glitches and work arounds (e-service center as resource)
  • Understands roofing, and valuation tool
  • Thorough knowledge of price lists (including historical), coverage types, and opening/closing statements
  • Able to create and retrieve macros
  • Provide superior customer service internally and externally

Working Conditions
  • This position may report out of any of Canstar’s branches
  • Travel to other Canstar branches and job sites may be occasionally required
  • Monday – Friday, day-time hours with flexible start/end times. Some early mornings may be required to accommodate meetings.
