Job description

Agilus is recruiting for an ESRI GIS Technician in the Utilities sector in Edmonton, Alberta.
Reporting to the Supervisor, GIS, this position performs duties on a fully competent level. Working in the GIS Cartography group, you will provide mapping products, Geographic Information Systems analysis (GIS) and data management services for the support of electric utility business processes. You will use CAD and GIS related applications including ESRI (ArcMap 10.8.1 & ArcGIS Pro), FME, MicroStation, and AutoCAD to provide these services.

Responsibilities:

  • Produce and revise digital mapping information; assist in managing large volumes of digital files in CAD/GIS formats including imagery and LIDAR.
  • Provide support for customization and scripting of tasks involved in data processing; support the development of customized mapping products.
  • Support the development of web-enabled GIS products, using ArcGIS Server and FME Server; assist with database management.
  • Translate client requests and technical information into maps and datasets; provide land/resource data based on mapped/GIS information.
  • Perform spatial analysis and queries; assist in the maintenance of a spatial data storage environment.
  • Assist in the maintenance of our web-GIS environment; help develop configured tools and datasets for users.
  • Assist in troubleshooting issues with mapping/GIS-related programs and data; test and apply new software.
  • Adhere to departmental safety processes and procedures.

Successful candidates will have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of a post-secondary technology diploma from a recognized Canadian institute of technology.
  • 2-5 years of technical experience.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Strong proficiency in Python coding and Oracle SQL Developer.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical staff interpersonally and in writing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to work independently as well as on project teams; ability to work under the pressure of tight timelines.
  • There may be a practical component to the interview.
