About the workplace
As an ESG Analyst with Vancity Investment Management (VCIM) you have an opportunity to be part of the only asset management firm in Canada focused solely on Socially Responsible Investing with a fossil-fuel free mandate.
You will contribute to the effectiveness of VCIM by providing ESG analytical advice and expertise to portfolio managers and investment committees at Vancity Investment Management (VCIM) and take a role in the firm’s social and environmental engagement activities to progress sustainable impact in our local and global communities.
This is a permanent, full-time role that will enjoy hybrid working arrangements which can be fulfilled primarily from the Vancity head office location and your Lower Mainland based home office. This role may require you to work in-office at least once a week. You’ll report to the ESG Lead.
A typical day would involve:
- Conduct Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) research and analysis of potential investments in support of the integrated investment process.
- Provide timely advice in response to Portfolio Managers and Investment Committees requests and proactively identify new opportunities in support of portfolio construction.
- Prepare briefing material on emerging ESG issues to provide insight to the Investment Committee on the broad implications and potential impacts on the fund holdings, and in support of shareholder engagement.
- Provide and deliver quality written/oral materials and presentations to support sales and marketing functions and initiatives.
- Collaborate on and support firm shareholder engagement development, strategies and thematic work.
You have:
- Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in a related discipline.
- 3-5 years ESG analysis and/or corporate sustainability experience.
- Strong writing, research and analysis skills.
- Able to condense complex documents and concepts into understandable reports for broad distribution.
- Ability to determine the relevance and depth of material for the selected audience.
- Able to travel within Canada several times throughout the year.
- Strong facilitator, presenter or public speaker, comfortable to speak in small to large groups from 10-200 at a time.
- Strong understanding of ESG factors, their influence on company risk and performance, and ESG risk management.
- Solid business acumen in the context of the Socially Responsible Investment industry and knowledgeable of concepts, practices and techniques of the Socially Responsible Investment field.
Bonus points, if you have:
- CFA or studying towards CFA.
- Experience developing and leading shareholder engagement strategies and campaigns.
- Experience working with ESG related research software and databases.

- Strong communicator - you have strong communication and interpersonal skills as a resource for the specialized area, providing specialized written advice and explanations, responding to inquiries, and developing management reports.
- A problem solver - You have problem solving and decision-making skills to diagnose challenges and issues; develop innovative business solutions; and to assess risks and opportunities that may affect the unit and/or designated unit.
- Analytical - You are comfortable working with complex topics that defy easy categorization and require in-depth analysis and the use of judgement. You pay strong attention to detail and commitment to quality, combined with a strong ability to think strategically.

The base salary for this role is $95,000 plus incentive pay annually.
