Hours: 35 hours per week; Monday to Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM

Salary: $31.22 - $35.46 per hour

Currently, the City of Belleville has an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated, creative, and dynamic individual to join our Environmental Services Department as a GIS Technician.

PURPOSE & SCOPE:

Reporting to the Linear Water/Wastewater Engineer, this position will be responsible for supporting the development, maintenance, and analysis of GIS data related to water and wastewater systems. Additionally, the job role provides technical and administrative support to Environmental Services supervisors and field staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintain GIS network mapping and associated records for water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
  2. Ensure a high level of data integrity and accuracy for new and revised geospatial dataset through daily input, analysis, and editing.
  3. Verify the accuracy of GIS Data published on the City of Belleville GIS Hub.
  4. Create new, and revise existing, drawings with AutoCAD.
  5. Compile and maintain records related to asset management.
  6. Build, maintain and update various databases.
  7. Maintain water and wastewater models.
  8. Support other City GIS staff through the development and maintenance of corporate GIS application data.
  9. Support departmental needs by creating/maintaining maintenance program maps, drawings, reports, forms and packages.
  10. Support other departmental workgroups by creating/maintaining digital and hardcopy maps.
  11. Prepare and package GIS data for outside agencies and consultants.
  12. Manage and maintain various databases, ensuring data accuracy, integrity, and consistency of records.
  13. Assist with management and administration of Instruction/Work Order Systems.
  14. Act as backup Locate Administrator.

EDUCATION/SPECIALIZED TRAINING/SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Minimum two (2) year College diploma from a full-time accredited post-secondary institution in GIS.
  2. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering plans and create AutoCAD drawings.
  3. Higher level ability creating, formatting, manipulating, and programming in MSWord, Excel, and MS Access.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Two (2) year post-secondary education in Geography, Computer Science, or Civil Engineering.
  2. Strong understanding of GIS concepts and software, including a strong knowledge of the ESRI ArcGIS Suite including Pro and extensions.
  3. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and assistance.
  4. Ability to work in a variable work environment.
  5. Organizational and time management skills.
  6. Customer service skills.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Demonstrated ability to apply GIS training in practical environment using ESRI ArcGIS software or acceptable equivalent.
  2. Two (2) years practical experience building, using and maintaining GIS with ESRI ArcGIS software or acceptable equivalent.
  3. Proficient with GIS metadata principles, practice and maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Two (2) years professional experience in a water/wastewater setting.
  2. Practical experience using and maintaining water and wastewater models, preferably EPANet for water.
  3. Surveying experience.
  4. Construction experience.
