We are currently recruiting for a Environmental Scientist Level I at our Chemetics Burnaby Lab. Our team includes world class experts and dynamic go-getters. This is a full-time on-site position based in Burnaby, B.C., Canada. Reporting to the R&D Laboratory Manager, you will play a key role in developing innovative, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable solutions for industries such as chemical processing, water treatment, carbon capture, sulfur recovery, and non-ferrous metals. In this role, you will conduct laboratory and pilot-scale testing of advanced technologies and chemical processes aimed at enhancing or redesigning existing systems. You will also contribute to product quality control, ensuring our solutions meet the highest standards. Occasionally, travel to customer sites (world-wide) will also be required to provide analytical support during plant commissioning and/or for technical service. Working closely with vendors and team members, you will serve as a technical resource, supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient execution of projects. Responsibilities:

  • Supporting laboratory operations through a variety of tasks, including sample preparation, benchtop and pilot-scale testing, data analysis, reporting, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. This role will require occasional travel to client sites for technical support, commissioning, or training activities.
  • Supporting the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, including safety audits and routine maintenance.
  • Conducting assigned R&D projects and contributing to process development initiatives.
  • Performing quality control tests on incoming materials.
  • Maintaining accurate records of test results and inventory.
  • Assisting in the development and refinement of testing procedures and methodologies.
  • Setting up and organizing small-scale test equipment.
  • Preparing technical reports and ensuring documentation is complete and organized.
  • Managing the ordering, receiving, and shipping of laboratory equipment and supplies.
  • Preparing detailed designs, drawings, specifications, and calculations as needed.
  • Communicating effectively with vendors and internal team members.
  • Serving as a technical resource for various projects, ensuring high standards of safety, reliability, and performance.
  • Moving items up to 30 lbs.

What you will bring:

Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory or pilot-scale testing environment. Experience with laboratory or process equipment. Comfortable using hand tools and operating laboratory equipment.
  • Solid knowledge of analytical chemistry.
  • Skilled in troubleshooting and problem-solving, particularly with equipment and test setups.
  • Available to travel within Canada and internationally for project commissioning and technical service support.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering

For applicants based in the province of British Columbia, the salary range is $58,000 to $70,000. Application of the pay band: Variation in salary is determined by factors such as the candidate’s qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
