Your opportunity

Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking for an Intermediate Environmental Professional (Engineer/Geoscientist) to join our multidisciplinary team. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

At Dillon, we operate as one team. The successful candidate can be based at our Halifax, NS or Sydney, NS Offices.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Project Management & Implementation

  1. Manage and complete contaminated sites projects in Atlantic Canada, including Phase I, II & III ESAs, hydrogeological investigations, soil and groundwater sampling programs, surface water and sediment sampling programs, soil vapour sampling, and contaminated site remediation projects.
  2. Prepare and review written reports, compile and revise contracts and other supporting documentation.
  3. Prepare and manage health and safety plans for field projects, coordinate field programs, prepare project contracts and agreements, and complete sub-contractor selection.
  4. Understand environmental regulations related to contaminated sites work in various locations (e.g., Federal Lands, adjacent provinces or territories).

Field Activities

  1. Provide site supervision/contract administration on contaminated site and remediation projects.
  2. Complete contaminated site projects including Phased Environmental Site Assessments and remediation projects.
  3. Train junior field staff in contaminated sites projects.
  4. Ability to travel and conduct field work in urban and remote locations within Canada.

Business Development

  1. Respond to Requests for Proposal related to contaminated sites work and develop strong client relationships.
  2. Lead in the development and enhancement of relationships with existing clients.
  3. Identify and develop new business opportunities with both private and public sector clients.

  2. Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching and mentoring.
  3. Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  1. A degree in Environmental Sciences, Engineering, Geology or a related environmental field.
  2. Designation (P.Eng/P.Geo) will be an asset.
  3. More than 5 years of experience in environmental consulting or related industrial experience as an environmental professional and project manager.
  4. Knowledge of applicable environmental regulations.
  5. Valid driver's license.

Experience

  1. Experience in any of the following would be considered an asset:
  • Strong field experience in collection and analysis of field data, environmental site assessments, remediation engineering, site characterization, environmental management, and health and safety.
  • Management of multiple simultaneous environmental projects in remote and urban locations.
  • Technical experience in geology, hydrogeology, environmental chemistry, contracting/construction, and waste management.
  • Experience working around heavy equipment, including drill rigs and excavators.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies.
  • Experience in construction monitoring and construction quality assurance.
  • Experience in hazardous building substances surveys.
  • Experience in training internal staff on field programs.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills.
  • Committed to a culture of quality including a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated capabilities in multidisciplinary teamwork and the ability to work independently.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong proficiency in proposal and report writing, presentations, communications, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office family of products.
  • Proficiency in several of: CAD, GIS, Surfer, GINT, ESDat or database abilities.
