Job Description:

We currently have an opening for an Environmental Scientist - Contaminated Sites in our Edmonton office. You combine knowledge of environmental site assessment (Phase I and II ESAs), remediation and risk assessment. You have experience managing medium to large-scale municipal infrastructure related projects and can apply Alberta’s regulatory processes to projects across client sectors. You have proven abilities to generate work and new opportunities. In addition, you possess a desire to work in a dynamic team environment and actively contribute to a variety of interesting and challenging projects.

Your role will focus on project management and technical support. The role is primarily office-based with local field work and occasional out of town work depending on project requirements.

What you will be doing:

  1. Preparing proposals and managing projects.
  2. Designing and implementing contaminant assessment-based projects for municipal infrastructure.
  3. Providing project related regulatory advice.
  4. Supporting preparation of tender specifications and special provisions.
  5. Administering contracts, construction monitoring, and submittal reviews.
  6. Generating project work and maintaining client relationships in the municipal sector.
  7. Contributing to multi-disciplinary and complex projects.
  8. Supporting the development of the team and mentoring staff.

Job Requirements:

What you will bring to the table:

  1. Undergraduate degree (B.Sc.) in a relevant pure or applied science; graduate degree (M.Sc.) preferred.
  2. 12+ years' post-graduation experience in environmental consulting specific to managing contaminated sites and risk assessments for municipal infrastructure and linear projects.
  3. Strong project management and client relationship skills.
  4. Professional registration (or eligibility for registration) and in good standing with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA).
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  6. Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines within a team environment.
  7. Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  8. Comprehensive understanding of provincial regulations (e.g., Alberta Tier 1 and 2 Soil and Groundwater Remediation Guidelines, Alberta Contaminated Sites Policy Framework).
  9. Subsoil Salinity Tool certification is an asset.
  10. Valid driver's licence.
