We have an exciting opportunity for an Environmental Health Officer to join our Environmental Public Health Team in Salmon Arm, B.C.!

What will you work on?

As an Environmental Health Officer, you will be at the forefront of our mission, "Less Risk, Better Health." Your role involves managing and delivering high-quality, evidence-based health protection programs and services. You will uphold the professional standards and code of ethics set by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors - BC Branch, utilizing a broad range of advocacy, partnership, health education, risk management, and legal enforcement strategies to advance public health and safety.

Your responsibilities include promoting and maintaining exceptional public health standards through inspections, risk assessments, and enforcement of health legislation. You will identify and mitigate factors detrimental to community and environmental health, reduce the incidence of communicable diseases, and provide crucial consultative and educational services. Your work ensures that community development aligns with a healthy environment, fostering a safer and healthier society.

You will play a critical role in preventing disease, injury, and public exposure to health hazards by conducting thorough inspections and investigations across various facilities, from food processing plants to childcare centers. Your duties include preparing detailed reports, collecting, and analyzing samples, and responding to public health emergencies. Through education, persuasion, and enforcement, you will ensure compliance with health legislation and contribute to the continuous improvement of public health practices.

Environmental Health Officers participate at many levels, with opportunities to develop specific skills for a wide range of roles in the public and private sector. With on-the-job experience and employer support training, experienced Officers progress from the field to specialist and supervisor positions, with some moving on to manager and director positions.


Who are we looking for?

Environmental Health Officers are highly skilled individuals with university degrees and national certification with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors. We are looking for new team members who value communication and strong problem-solving and decision-making skills as part of a diverse public health team.


Position Information:

This is a relief full-time position until June 19, 2025, or return of incumbent. This position works Monday to Friday day shifts from 08:30 to 16:30.

If you have a certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) and are registered or eligible to be registered with the Board of Registration of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors BC Branch, apply today!


  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health-related discipline; must have a certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) and must be registered or eligible to be registered with the Board of Registration of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors BC Branch.
  • Two years recent experience as a Public Health Inspector or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Current valid BC Driver’s License.
