Environmental, Health and Safety Manager

At TC Transcontinental, we've got it made, and that's because of the expertise of our team. We are currently looking for a Full-Time Environmental Health and Safety Manager for our Whitby location.
The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager will be responsible for the overall facility safety through the implementation of best-in-class safety programs, safety infrastructure, and safety training for all employees. This role will also provide employee relations support across multiple stages of the employee life cycle.

- Partner with all teams and departments to continually grow and refresh a strong safety culture with the goal of zero accidents.
- Lead investigation, with support of department and team leaders, of all safety incidents with focus on root cause analysis and implementation of effective countermeasures.
- Manage safety and health-related vendors and suppliers.
- Serve as subject matter expert on safety-related compliance measures, ensuring alignment with all applicable regulations and oversight.
- Develop and implement policies and practices to identify and mitigate hazardous conditions.
- Lead cross-functional Safety Committee, procuring active participation from a representative group of employees from across the organization.
- Coordinate safety-related audit program and associated improvement activities.
- Review training needs/matrix and develop and coordinate a comprehensive program of internal and external courses that meet the business needs whilst complying with statutory health and safety requirements.
- Member of the food safety team and works with them to integrate safety protocols into HACCP plans and procedures.
- Lead safety awareness campaigns to promote a culture of safety within the facility.
- Organize, conduct, and continually improve new employee on-boarding; create a positive first experience of the company.
- Function as an advisor to line management regarding the application of occupational health & safety and company policies to specific business decisions and performance management.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee-related data.
- Maintain knowledge of legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting policies, procedures, and reporting.
- Respond to inquiries regarding WSIB programs and educate employees in the benefits available to them.
When your expertise drives us:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Business or related discipline required;
- Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in an EHS related role;
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional “CRSP” preferred;
- Must demonstrate knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, MOL and MOE Regulations, other related regulatory requirements;
- Familiarity with food safety principles and regulations is desirable;
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a team environment;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software applications;
- Leadership and coaching skills;
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills for hazard identification and risk assessment.
