Job description

Gannet Fleming’s Environmental Team in Toronto is currently seeking a highly motivated and experienced Ecologist to join our growing team in Ontario.

Duties and Key Responsibilities

  1. Carrying out natural heritage studies in support of transportation, transit, municipal infrastructure, and other projects.
  2. Conduct background data reviews and interpretation using provincial and federal online databases summarizing natural heritage existing conditions, including species at risk data.
  3. Completing environmental field studies/programs such as vegetation, wetlands, wildlife, and fisheries; oversee and undertake field data collection. Technical discipline specialty experience in one or more of these areas would be considered an asset.
  4. Working with a large multi-disciplinary team to execute projects and meet client expectations.
  5. Undertaking environmental impact assessments by identifying potential effects and mitigation measures.
  6. Prepare and/or contribute to technical reports, including writing, coordinating, and analyzing ecological/environmental datasets.
  7. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings at a basic level.
  8. Apply knowledge of applicable municipal, provincial and federal legislation.
  9. Assisting with preparation of documentation to support regulatory applications and permits.
  10. Supporting preparation of proposals, fee estimates and workplans.
  11. Adhering to and enforcing corporate Safety, Health and Environment protocols and Gannett Fleming’s quality control program.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Ecology, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.
  2. Minimum 5 years of practical experience in environmental consulting.
  3. Experience working on Transit projects (Metrolinx, TTC, MTO Class EAs and Municipal Class EAs is an asset.
  4. An understanding of transportation, transit and municipal infrastructure construction projects gained through practical experience.
  5. Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and drawings.
  6. Demonstrated sense of urgency with a strong commitment to ensuring client satisfaction, achieving goals and objectives.
  7. Excellent self-management, time management and organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and multi-task.
  8. Familiarity and working knowledge of various environmental permits and approvals.
  9. Strong verbal and written communication skills, team oriented and ability to work independently.
  10. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat applications, and file sharing systems (e.g., Sharepoint).

Working Hours: 8 AM – 5 PM
