Job description

WSP is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and delivery-oriented candidate who has practical experience with Environment Data Management service.

As an Intermediate Environment Data Management Consultant, you will assist project teams to set up pre-sampling database structure to Contaminated lands, Environmental Planning, and Environmental Impact Assessment, and other environmental investigations projects.

Assess and optimize our environmental data management system and support environmental projects through effective data management, analysis, and visualization.

The successful candidate will collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, and GIS specialists to ensure our data processes are accurate, efficient, and future-ready. What you can expect to do here:

Data Control and Tabulation

  • Work with project teams to set up pre-sampling database structure (typically based on EQuIS) to incorporate field and laboratory data.
  • Configure EQuIS Enterprise Portals for project site.
  • Coordinate with analytical laboratories on the delivery of analytical data EDDs through Laboratory Information Management Systems.
  • Perform quality assurance/quality control checks on analytical data to confirm compliance with prescribed thresholds and limits.
  • Provide tabular output of laboratory and field data in accordance with project requirements.

System Assessment and Modernization

  • Assess current data management workflows and systems to identify strengths, areas for enhancement, and opportunities to improve data quality and efficiency.
  • Identify automation opportunities to reduce manual effort and improve data accuracy.
  • Research and recommend emerging technologies (e.g., cloud solutions, machine learning applications, or improved visualization tools) for environmental data management.

Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Collaborate with environmental scientists, engineers, hydrogeologists, and GIS specialists to proactively support project data needs.
  • Provide technical support and training to project teams on best practices for data management and visualization.
  • Assist in developing project budgets and estimates for data-related components.
  • Possess good communication skills and the ability to collaboratively develop solutions to meet the needs of our multidisciplinary group.
  • Team player that enjoys working collaboratively with multiple disciplines and promoting data tools and capabilities within our technical group.
  • Coordinate with GIS Analysts on the development of laboratory and field data (e.g., exceedance plots, plan view and/or cross-sectional figures of distribution using ArcGIS or similar platforms).

Reporting and Documentation

  • Support preparation of data summaries and project reports for environmental assessments and regulatory submissions.
  • Maintain data governance standards, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with project and industry guidelines.
  • Organize and manage project data files, metadata, and version control processes.
  • Promote the efficient use of data tools to other technical specialists through presentations and webinars.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or a related field.
  • Experience: 5–8 years of experience in environmental data management and/or data science, with at least 3 years focused on system assessment and process improvement.
  • Proficiency with EarthSoft’s EQuIS (desktop and online).
  • Familiarity with EarthSoft’s Suite of Modules (Sample Planning Module, Collect, and Live).
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft O365 (Excel, Access, SharePoint, OneDrive, Word).
  • Familiarity with data visualization and analytics tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Python (pandas, matplotlib), or R (ggplot, tidyverse).
  • Background in automating data workflows using Python, R, or SQL scripting.
  • Data Quality & Governance: Strong understanding of data validation, quality control, and regulatory compliance in environmental projects.
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret complex environmental datasets and develop meaningful insights to address project needs.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain data methodologies and findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Independence & Adaptability: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced environment.
