Dillon Consulting Limited is seeking an Environmental Assessment Specialist for its St. John's, NL office. The role involves developing client relationships, managing environmental projects, and leading a team of professionals in the Maritime Provinces and across Canada. Key responsibilities include business development, technical report writing, and executing environmental permitting programs. Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking for an Environmental Assessment and Permitting Practitioner to join our existing talent base and you will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

This position is largely focused on clients and projects in the Maritime Provinces, but will also include the potential to work on projects across Canada. As an Environmental Assessment and Permitting Practitioner at Dillon, you will be responsible for developing and fostering healthy client relationships and regulators, managing and supporting projects, scoping and executing field programs, technical report writing, and leading a dynamic team of environmental scientists, engineers and technologists.
What you will need to succeed
• A university degree or post-undergraduate college diploma in a relevant environmental, physical science, or engineering related discipline.
• An advanced degree in a related field would be an asset.
• A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated professional experience in environmental consulting, industrial, regulatory, or academic setting or related field with the specific emphasis on environmental assessment and permitting for development proposals.
• Valid driver’s license (Class 5).
• Excellent communication and report writing skills.
• Proficiency in English. Working knowledge of French would be considered an asset.
• In-depth knowledge of relevant provincial and federal environmental legislation, regulations, policies, guidelines, and regulatory permitting and approval requirements.
• Experience with municipal government bylaws and policies related to land development and environmental protection.
• Experience in the preparation of regulatory applications and submissions.
• General working knowledge of various environmental and social science disciplines with a specific focus on identifying potential environmental effects and mitigation associated with a proposed development.
• Expertise in a related technical discipline (such as terrestrial ecology, wildlife biology, aquatic biology, air quality, etc.) is an asset.
• Understanding of the application of Best Management Practices to environmental compliance and effectiveness monitoring programs.
• Experience in conducting public, stakeholder, and Indigenous engagement and consultation would be considered an asset.
• Excellent Project management and client relationship skills.
• Advanced critical thinking, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Commitment to project quality and capability of meeting project deadlines.
