Job Description

As an Environmental Advisor, you will be closely involved in the maintenance of an environmental management system based on the ISO 14001:2015 standard as well as applying to governments for environmental authorizations.

More specifically, you will:

  1. Contact regulatory agencies such as the MELCC, the DFO and the MFFP for the environmental permit applications.
  2. Prepare authorization requests to government organizations.
  3. Ensure environmental regulatory monitoring.
  4. Organize sampling according to operational needs and the relevant authorities’ protocols.
  5. Develop and revise procedures, measurement methods and other documents pertaining to environmental management.
  6. Ensure compliance with applicable environmental policies, standards and programs.
  7. Perform workplace inspections to ensure compliance with applicable procedures and instructions.
  8. Handle complaints from neighbours.
  9. Perform internal audits on ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 certified management system procedures.
  10. Participate in the implementation of preventive and corrective actions for the environmental management system.
  11. Make recommendations following inspections to comply with both external regulations and internal requirements.
  12. Participate in meetings with the Production Department, take part in discussions and make recommendations.
  13. Participate in improving the facility’s environmental management.
  14. Manage environmental projects on site and subcontractors assigned to the project.
  15. Respond to environmental emergencies, conduct investigations and prepare incident reports.
  16. Perform any other tasks related to their duties as requested by their supervisor.

Qualifications
  1. DCS or bachelor’s degree in engineering, environment, biology, chemistry or other related discipline.
  2. At least eight years of relevant work experience.
  3. Knowledge of site characterization protocols.
  4. Excellent understanding of environmental standards management and legislation.
  5. Experience in the process of applying for certificates of authorization.
  6. Have participated in the implementation of ISO 14001: 2015 within the company.
  7. Internal auditor certification.
  8. Strong ability to lead meetings and training sessions, oral presentation skills.
  9. Excellent writing skills, report and procedure writing abilities.
  10. Intermediate knowledge of English, as the incumbent will be interacting with our English-speaking clients.
  11. To be selected, you must undergo the investigation and security clearance process required under the federal government’s Contract Security Program.
