Location

Salary Range: $53,738 to $60,006 annually. Salary scale and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

The Opportunity

Provides professional English language support for students’ college coursework, with the goal of helping multilingual Douglas College students develop the English language skills they need to participate more effectively in the college learning environment. Mentors and supports peer tutors on ELL supports they can offer to students. Provides English Language Learning workshops to the Douglas College student community.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current and recognized TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language) certification (preferred), and/or successful completion of a recognized TESL training program.
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a recognized college/university.
  • A minimum of two years’ related work experience (tutoring or teaching ESL to post-secondary students).
  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills including written and verbal fluency in the English language.
  • A demonstrated ability to assess students’ English Language needs (related to the students’ college coursework) and focus tutoring on students' requested and evident learning needs (including knowledge gaps, skill weaknesses, and attitude challenges).
  • Ability to tutor students using pedagogically appropriate approaches to helping students both learn and become more independent as effective college students.

This full-time, regular position is available starting February 10, 2025. Hours of work will typically be scheduled Monday to Friday, between 9:15 am and 5:00 pm. This position is required to work a flexible schedule based on operational needs. Shift days and times may change depending on operational needs. Evening and occasional weekend work may be required. The position is located at the Coquitlam campus; and will be required to work at all Douglas College campuses and offsite locations.
