Job Overview:

Lumentum is seeking a motivated and skilled Engineering Technician to join our world-class Hermetic Packaging & Integration team in Ottawa. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with advanced optical communications products and equipment and contribute meaningfully to the development of the processes used to fabricate and test these products. The ideal candidate is a graduate of an Engineering Technology program in the early stages of their career, with 5+ years of experience, who is eager to learn and grow within our dynamic environment and has the desire and drive to make a significant impact.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Maintain the full suite of hermetics and packaging lab infrastructure, equipment, and instrument calibrations.
  • Work closely with engineering process primes to order, assemble, test, and provide feedback on production tooling and product prototypes.
  • Using assembly and machining capabilities, support generation of early concept prototype tooling and product prototypes.
  • Assemble experimental apparatus to assess process capability. Prepare and conduct experiments, reporting and interpreting results.
  • Manage ordering of lab supplies and instruments, maintenance of instrument calibration.

What We’re Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Engineering Technology.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, positive, and independent, with a demonstrated ability to learn quickly.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Inquisitive, with a high level of interest in science and engineering.
  • Practical mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with tools, instruments, and sensors commonly used in electronics or optics labs.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and root cause identification ability.
  • Professional pride and craftsmanship with meticulous attention to detail.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience.
  • Working knowledge of mathematics applicable to data analysis.
  • Experience with machining and CNC programming.
  • Experience in electronics assembly and testing, precision hand soldering.
  • Experience in micro-optics assembly and optical fiber splicing.
