Job description

Reporting to the Corporate Director, Environment and Operational Risks, you will be responsible for providing guidance in the governance of critical infrastructure for our different sites and ensuring Agnico Eagle’s policies and best practices are followed. You will be part of the Environment and Critical Infrastructures team, and will ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct, and the environment. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Provide technical direction to ensure that critical infrastructure (water, waste rock, heap leach, and tailings infrastructure) is appropriately managed and performing as per design intent;
  • Support the sites in the governance of critical infrastructure and work closely with the Responsible Person (RP) on all related issues;
  • Participate in the design review of all technical documents for critical infrastructure to ensure design standards (regulatory and industry), performance, objectives, and indicators are all in accordance with best practices and Agnico Eagle’s corporate policies;
  • Collaborate in the annual geotechnical inspections, DSR inspection, and Independent Review Board meetings;
  • Review OMS and ERP manuals on a yearly basis;
  • Participate in the risk assessments for critical infrastructure;
  • Assist in planning of the Independent Review Board meetings and site visits;
  • Assist in the identification and resolution of all technical risks of the assigned operations, including, but not limited to, water, tailings, and waste rock management;
  • Provide support for permit applications and responses to regulatory inquiries;
  • Provide support to the Closure and to the Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs Teams, as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in civil or geological engineering (or a closely related field) with pertinent experience in the mining industry;
  • Professional Engineering license in the required jurisdictions, or the ability to attain the necessary license within 6 months;
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience in water, waste rock, and tailings management;
  • At least 15 years of relevant experience including: mine geotechnical investigation and design, dam design, tailings impoundment design, heap leach facility design, and hydraulic structure design;
  • Professional-level fluency in French and English. Fluency in Spanish or Finnish is an asset, but not required;
  • A demonstrated ability to manage projects and to work well under pressure;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver presentations and prepare reports;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Availability to travel to Agnico Eagle sites in Ontario, Quebec, Nunavut, Australia, or Finland, as needed;
  • Expertise in advanced geotechnical methodologies (seismic analysis, numerical analysis, laboratory testing, foundation improvement, etc.) will be considered an asset.

Your Work Schedule:

  • Schedule: 40 hours per week, teleworking with monthly travel to assigned sites and to Montreal and Toronto for regular meetings.
