Position Summary

Acuren Group is looking for EITs to join our Engineering Department to support projects in Saint John, NB. In this role, you'll plan and perform material tests, field testing, non-destructive testing, inspections, and engineering projects. You'll usually follow established procedures but may also create new methods to meet objectives. Under the guidance of a senior engineer or supervisor, you'll review and analyze data and report your findings. You'll also guide technicians, making sure work stays within budget, meets client needs, and is completed on time.

Responsibilities

Conduct engineering work including:

  • Assisting with engineering analysis, repair and improvement for mechanical integrity related projects including welding QA/QC, pressure vessels, pipeline, storage tanks, tubing, valves, and other similar industrial equipment;
  • Conducting field engineering services in industrial environments including chemical analysis, hardness testing, metallography, visual inspection, and laser profilometry; note the position at times will require short-term out of office field work, depending on client scheduling demands;
  • Performing engineering review of equipment integrity inspections and provide recommendations on serviceability;
  • Assisting with development of inspection reports and internal tools for continuous improvement of existing projects.

Participating in technical projects:

  • Providing technical support to various projects under the guidance and direction of senior technicians and senior engineering resources;
  • Acting as project leader for site inspections and supporting technical investigations, communicating with clients to gather evidence, conducting analysis and preparing reports;
  • Ensuring efficient use of resources and delivery of results.

Providing clients with support and engineering expertise by:

  • Proactively taking the initiative to understand customer requirements and needs to ensure expectations are met and exceeded;
  • Identifying additional services and products and new technologies to meet ongoing client needs;
  • Meeting with customers to discuss report findings, recommendations and conclusions;
  • Following up with clients regarding implementation of recommendations;
  • Continually striving for process improvements including creating comprehensive reports aligned to client needs, identifying solutions to issues, and developing recommendations for implementation.

Requirements

  • A university degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Metallurgical is preferred);
  • Hands-on work experience; previous experience in heavy industry with welding, mechanical repairs, maintenance, failure analysis, pressure equipment assessment and inspection, fitness for service review, and repair design is preferred;
  • Background with materials standards, industrial inspection, and analysis would be an asset;
  • Membership in the applicable provincial association for professional engineers is required;
  • Ability to understand various Engineering codes, theories, principles, and practices;
  • Application of industrial codes and standards related to materials, welding, tanks, and pressure equipment;
  • Application of NDT methodologies towards optimal equipment maintenance strategies and the ability to provide a path forward based on testing results;
  • Ability to resolve issues and problems that are not clearly defined;
  • Ability to manage large amounts of data and provide clear and concise presentation of engineering analysis;
  • Ability to translate knowledge into practical solutions;
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively respond to different levels of understanding and produce professional reports;
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of, and compliance with, responsibilities under the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, and ISO Systems, and Acuren Safety and Quality Management Systems, policies and procedures;
  • Proficiency in MS Office programs and driver license, Class 5 (clean record) required;
  • Ability to travel to remote work locations in Canada and the US.
