The Opportunity:

WSP is currently seeking an Engagement Specialist to join the ENGAGE Team, located at our Edmonton office. Reporting to the Western Canadian Community Engagement Lead, the Engagement Specialist will be responsible for assisting with various engagement tasks such as but not limited to engagement design, community outreach, facilitation, writing, logistics, and business development.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Perform professional work related to a variety of engagement, facilitation, and community outreach assignments in accordance with IAP2 Core Values and Ethics
  • Present to a diverse range and size of audiences from the general public to various community/business/government groups
  • Provide professional engagement services to the business, industry, government, stakeholders, and broader communities
  • Undertake a variety of tasks related to stakeholder and public engagement projects
  • Develop and implement engagement strategies for a diverse set of clients and projects under the guidance of senior engagement specialists.
  • Assist in the preparation of proposals and other business development activities
  • Undertake research and analysis of various scenarios and formal presentation of analysis
  • Effectively communicate with provincial government agencies, municipalities, private industry, special interest groups, organizations and institutions
  • Conduct research and prepare various technical background documents to support various projects
  • Act as a liaison between clients and communities (stakeholders, indigenous, public); and
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • A degree in Urban Planning, Environment, or related field
  • IAP2 training and membership would be considered an asset
  • Three years of progressively responsible engagement and planning experience
  • Experience designing, leading, and facilitating meetings, information sessions, workshops
  • Aptitude and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and diverse perspectives
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Analytical, creative, decision-making, and strategic skills and a proven ability to reach sound decisions and to resolve complex challenges, and,
  • Excellent time-management skills.
