POSITION SUMMARY:
- An Emergency Responder provides first line response to any client calls related to the emergency assessment, mitigation, containment, and/or resolution of incidents.
- This position is a Casual/On-Call role, with no fixed work schedule. Individuals are placed on an on-call list and contacted when services are required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Respond whenever available and willing to travel.
- Report for pre-scheduled industrial service work as indicated by Operations.
- Ensure safe and efficient response to incidents and scheduled work as outlined in the QM Health and Safety manual.
- Report to and comply with Team Leader.
- Perform equipment checks as requested.
- Inspect emergency response equipment as requested.
- Basic housekeeping of building and work area when on call duty.
- Attend scheduled training as indicated as required.
- Other tasks and duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Grade 12 Graduate is an asset.
- Formal education in environmental hazard management, emergency management, or environmental science is an asset.
Occupational Certification:
- Clean and valid driver’s license.
- NFPA 472 Hazardous Materials Awareness Level or greater asset.
- NFPA 1006 Confined Space Entry/ Rope Rescue certification asset.
- Tank car/ Tank truck Specialist is an asset.
- Construction Safety Officer (CSO) is an asset.
- Self-motivated, organized individual with good interpersonal skills.
- Good time management skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and general computer navigation.
- Product movement expertise (pumps, transfer knowledge etc.).
Experience:
- Hazardous Materials Response experience (1 year or greater) asset.
- Previous experience in chemical handling, transferring, and waste management, etc. asset.
- Previous experience with the assessment of industrial services and a keen understanding of working at heights, confined space, rescue etc. asset.
- Comprehensive heavy construction experience and Industrial experience an asset.
- Rope Rescue Technician experience is an asset.
Knowledge:
- Must be an adept communicator with teamwork skills that are collaborative and flexible.
- Excellent understanding of Federal and Provincial regulations and other regulatory authorities with respect to operations.
- Excellent computer skills, with a focus on Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel.
Abilities:
- Excellent team player, cooperative respectful approach, strong relationship building capabilities.
- Adept at strategic thinking – look for solutions outside the box, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and communication skills, fluency in English a must, other language abilities desirable.
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Excellent group presentation skills.
- Ability to problem solve and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, in inclement weather, and in confined space.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Both office and outdoor activities related to typical diverse environments and varied locations, ability to work in inclement weather conditions as required and to travel regularly. Required to work on call.
