Responsibilities

THE ROLE:

AMD is seeking an experienced Embedded Security Engineer to join our Product Security Office (PSO). The ideal candidate will combine deep expertise in embedded systems development with a strong understanding of security architecture and implementation. This role will focus on securing the foundations of AMD products, ensuring robust security validation across our product portfolio.

THE PERSON:

The ideal candidate should be passionate about embedded systems security and possess leadership skills to drive sophisticated issues to resolution. Able to communicate effectively and work optimally with different teams across AMD.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, implement, analyze, and evaluate security architectures with focus on platform integrity and runtime protection.
  • Conduct security analysis and threat modeling, identify security vulnerabilities in implementation, and recommend security controls.
  • Analyze security issues using advanced debugging tools and hardware analysis equipment.
  • Provide technical guidance on secure boot design, hardware root of trust, and chain of trust mechanisms.
  • Implement security features including attestation, measured boot, and secure update implementations.
  • Evaluate and implement secure communication protocols and interfaces between components.
  • Provide expertise on security verification methodologies and testing approaches.
  • Partner with hardware teams to define and validate platform security features.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive security requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Lead security architecture reviews and contribute to next-generation security feature definitions.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Multiple years' of embedded development experience with strong expertise in C programming and assembly language (x86/ARM).
  • Extensive experience with secure boot implementations, hardware root of trust, and firmware attestation mechanisms.
  • Strong knowledge of embedded systems architecture, security principles, and common attack vectors.
  • Proficiency in hardware debugging tools (JTAG, SWD, logic analyzers) and embedded development environments.
  • Experience with embedded Linux, bootloader development, and real-time operating systems.
  • Deep understanding of hardware security features, including HSMs, secure elements, and applied cryptography.
  • Familiarity with industry security standards (NIST 800-193, TCG DICE, TPM 2.0) and common embedded interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, PCIe).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with excellent debugging skills.
  • Proven track record of effective cross-functional collaboration and technical documentation.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Motivating leader with good interpersonal skills.

BENEFICIAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with UEFI development and security features.
  • Knowledge of AMD platform security features.
  • Familiarity with confidential computing technologies.
  • Experience with TEE (TrustZone, SGX) development.
  • Background in security research or vulnerability assessment.
  • Experience with formal verification tools.
  • Knowledge of supply chain security concepts.
  • Understanding of side-channel attacks and mitigation strategies.
  • Experience with secure firmware update mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of security certification requirements (FIPS, Common Criteria).
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
