Marecomms Inc. - Electronic Systems Intern
Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia
Marecomms was founded in 2017 in Halifax, NS, Canada to provide advanced wireless communication and remote sensing solutions for maritime environments. Our proprietary technology is the world’s first subsea robust & mobile communication solution, changing the game in terms of underwater networking and communications capability.
Project Summary
This role focuses on improving, accelerating, and maintaining the existing and future electrical and electronics system design at Marecomms for our low-power, low-noise footprint, environmentally-friendly acoustic communications architecture.
Job Responsibilities:
- Hands-on Prototyping, Testing, and Validation: Build test prototypes on a combination of amplifiers, various magnetics, ADC/DAC cards, conduct experiments, analyze data, and ensure the performance and reliability of electrical systems. Perform the necessary work to streamline the production of optimized architectures.
- Circuits & Systems: Understanding of analog and digital circuit design principles and implementations with an emphasis on power amplification architectures, voltage/impedance transformers, inductor and capacitor elements, and their roles in power amplification systems. Previous experience and knowledge of subsea sensors (transducers, hydrophones) is a plus.
- Assist in the Design and Development of Electrical Systems: Assemble electronic components on PCBs, contribute to schematic design, PCB layout, and component selection for electrical systems.
- Proficiency in CAD Software: Experience with schematic capture and PCB design using tools including but not limited to Altium Designer, Eagle, or KiCad, as well as 3D rendering software.
- Knowledge of Mechanical Systems Design and Integration: Understanding of mechanical dry-end and wet-end (subsea) enclosures, casing solutions, subsea connector standards, optimally placing, wiring, and cabling of electrical systems in mechanical enclosures, using crimping tools to make specialized connectors.
- Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Integrate electrical systems into larger projects and products by working closely with diverse teams. Undertake additional responsibilities as needed to support project objectives and team goals.
- Document and Communicate Findings: Prepare reports, presentations, and technical documentation to document findings and communicate results effectively.
