This position is located in Hay River, NT
Working in a team environment under the direction of the Manager, Design, the Electrical Technologist provides Electrical design drafting from the conceptual stage through to commissioning, for capital projects and maintenance support activities involving the Corporation’s power generating stations utilizing Computer Aided Design Drafting (CADD) systems. This position assists Electrical Engineers and Manager, Transmission & Distribution to provide technical design, project support, and technical support throughout all stages of project delivery for assigned capital and O&M projects. Supports and contributes to other engineering department responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Always work safely, adhere to all aspects of the NTPC Health & Safety and Environmental programs, comply with all rules & regulations, and continually practice health & safety while performing any duties.
- Produces Electrical Engineering design and as-built drawings and single / three-line diagrams using CADD technology. Assists in the preparation of preliminary and final detailed designs for Electrical works associated with the Corporation's diesel, hydro-electric, solar, and wind generating stations and transmission and distribution systems. Designs shall be practical, economical, and meet or exceed the latest edition of all applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Produces drawings and plant & equipment layouts, and all other Electrical drawings utilizing CADD systems. Develops and prepares detailed equipment and electrical layout drawings using CAD software using information obtained in the field or from basic design notes received from Electrical Engineers and/or Technologists.
- Working from single line diagram prepared by the Engineer, prepares detailed construction drawings including:
- Electrical equipment layouts, considering cost and space constraints, maintainability of equipment, and aesthetics.
- Optimization of layouts for placement of electrical equipment, cable tray, cables, conduit, control panels, etc.
- Working from detailed construction drawings:
- Prepares detailed bills of materials.
- Produces preliminary and detailed project engineering and construction scopes, estimates, schedules, and cash flows.
- Prepares Cable Schedule.
- Assist electrical Engineer with programming and troubleshooting of existing Plant automation including PLC Economic dispatch and associated accessories.
- Performs project field inspections and construction supervision and proposes solutions to problems that arise during construction.
- Performs other assigned duties as requested.
Qualifications
- Electrical Engineering Diploma plus at least 4 years of related experience including experience in electrical design. Utility experience will be preferred. Equivalencies may be considered.
- Must be registered as a CET in Canada or must be eligible for registration.
- Strong knowledge of power generation electrical systems, PLCs, electrical protection, transmission & distribution systems, substations, renewable integration, etc.
- Working knowledge of “AutoCAD” and related third-party software.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and communication skills.
- Good computer skills utilizing MS Office Suite, Outlook, MS Project, and other related software packages.
- Team player, ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
- Experience in electrical design and project and construction management.
- Class 5 driver's license.
- Satisfactory criminal record check.
Salary for this position ranges from $57.85/hr - $70.28/hr. In addition, there is a location allowance of $3,823 per annum.
