Improve the processes of today
Define the best practices of tomorrow

At Côté Gold, we focus on what we contribute, not just what we extract. We believe that in order for prosperity to be sustained, it must be shared, it must support the well-being of our employees and our communities, and it must be achieved with minimal impact to the environment.

Côté Gold is being developed in partnership with the Mattagami First Nation, Flying Post First Nation and Métis Nation of Ontario, Region 3.

The open-pit gold mine is a joint venture between IAMGOLD and Sumitomo Metal Mining Co. Ltd. and is operated by IAMGOLD. We are located near Gogama, Ontario, with access to stable infrastructure and strong connections with our local communities.

IAMGOLD is committed to treating all people in a way that respects their dignity and independence. Should you require any support or accommodation during the recruitment process or otherwise, please notify us when you apply and we will work to meet your accessibility needs.

ELECTRICAL SPECIALIST

Provide advice, assistance, training and support to employees. The electrical specialist focuses on ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of all electrical systems within the processing plant. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on expert, adept at complex troubleshooting, optimizing maintenance strategies, and effectively bridging the gap between field execution, planning, and engineering teams. You will play a key role in minimizing downtime, enhancing equipment performance, and championing electrical safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Area 1: Complex Electrical Problem Solving & Analysis

  • Translate electrical engineering designs and plans into practical, executable work packages and procedures for the field crews.
  • Lead the diagnosis and resolution of complex electrical malfunctions, system failures, incidents, and breakdowns across the processing plant (including HV/MV/LV systems, PLCs, VFDs, motors, control systems, etc.).
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis (RCA) for electrical incidents and significant equipment failures.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, instrumentation technicians, mechanical teams, and operational staff to develop comprehensive technical reports detailing findings and analyses.
  • Propose robust, practical, and cost-effective electrical solutions to prevent recurrence of issues.
  • Develop, document, and oversee the implementation of corrective action plans and methodologies for electrical problems.
  • Organize and lead technical analysis meetings related to significant electrical events or ongoing issues.
  • Provide expert electrical insights during post-mortem reviews and contribute to lessons learned.
  • Actively contribute to the review and refinement of electrical maintenance strategies (preventive, predictive, condition-based).
  • Focus on maximizing electrical equipment availability and reliability while optimizing maintenance costs and power consumption.
  • Support and improve the documentation process related to electrical system shutdowns and breakdowns.

Area 2: Health, Safety and Risk Management

  • Actively participate in the development, review, and continuous improvement of electrical maintenance procedures and safe work practices (including LOTO, Arc Flash analysis/mitigation, confined space entry related to electrical work).
  • Collaborate closely with the Health & Safety team to ensure all electrical work complies with site standards, provincial regulations, and industry best practices (e.g., CSA Z462).
  • Provide expert electrical input into the site's risk management plan, identifying and assessing reliability-related and safety risks associated with electrical systems and infrastructure.
  • Champion electrical safety leadership on site, setting a high standard through personal example and intervention.

Area 3: Electrical Equipment Performance Optimization

  • Ensure electrical work execution aligns seamlessly with overall plant maintenance strategies and production goals.
  • Analyze electrical system performance data, advise stakeholders, and make recommendations to improve the efficiency, reliability, and effectiveness of implemented electrical solutions.
  • Identify electrical risks (e.g., equipment obsolescence, single points of failure, arc flash hazards) and opportunities (e.g., energy efficiency upgrades, automation enhancements, condition monitoring technologies). Communicate these effectively and recommend action plans.
  • Monitor, analyze, and propose improvements to preventive, predictive, and proactive electrical maintenance programs, utilizing tools like thermography, motor circuit analysis, partial discharge testing, and analysis of control system data.
  • Closely monitor the performance, condition, and health of critical electrical assets (e.g., main transformers, E-Houses, large VFDs, key PLC systems, critical motor drives).
  • Stay current with technological advancements in electrical power systems, automation, control, and maintenance techniques relevant to the mineral processing industry.

Area 4: Continuous Improvement and Collaboration

  • Champion a collaborative culture focused on proactive electrical maintenance and operational excellence.
  • Provide expert field-level feedback to engineers and planners on electrical system performance, constructability issues, and potential design improvements.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between the electrical execution team and the planning/engineering departments.
  • Proactively seek out and champion the implementation of best-in-class electrical maintenance and operational practices relevant to the gold processing environment.
  • Propose innovative electrical methods, technologies, or diagnostic tools to meet the evolving challenges of maintaining a large processing plant.
  • Collaborate on and propose improvements to electrical designs and installations to address process bottlenecks, enhance reliability, improve safety, and optimize costs.
  • Develop and advocate for new approaches, methods, or site standards to optimize electrical system performance and ensure compliance with industry regulations and organizational requirements.
  • Continuously seek opportunities to enhance personal and team technical knowledge and skills related to plant electrical systems and controls.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements and Nice To Haves

  • College Diploma (DEC or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering Technology OR a relevant Provincial/Interprovincial Journeyman Electrician Certification (e.g., Red Seal Construction Electrician or Industrial Electrician) combined with extensive relevant experience.

Work experience - Nature & Length

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on electrical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial setting (e.g., mining, mineral processing, smelting, pulp & paper, heavy manufacturing).
  • Significant, demonstrable experience within a mineral processing environment is essential; gold processing experience is preferred.
  • Proven expertise in troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing Medium Voltage (MV) and Low Voltage (LV) power distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), large AC motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and Programmable Logic Controllers.
  • Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) / SCADA systems and industrial communication networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP) is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with electrical testing equipment (e.g., insulation resistance testers, DMMs, power quality analyzers, thermal imaging cameras).
  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical theory, safety codes (CEC, CSA Z462), and standards applicable to industrial electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, P&IDs, control narratives, and technical manuals.
  • Strong understanding of electrical preventive and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and advanced electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written) for interacting with technical teams, management, and external vendors.
  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure in a production-critical environment.
  • High degree of professional rigor and commitment to quality work.
