Location: Toronto, Ontario, Canada (Hybrid)

Position: Electrical Hardware Designer

We are looking for an Electrical Hardware Designer to join our team in Toronto.

The successful candidate will assist in the hardware electrical design of new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilizing processes based on established engineering principles to meet requirements. Additionally, they will be involved with designs of moderate complexity.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in the design of new or revised products, equipment, and installations, utilizing established engineering principles to meet customer and Railway requirements.
• Work harmoniously in a team environment while maintaining professionalism in the job and in relations with others.
• Occasional travel may be required to customer sites, up to three times per year.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Up to 3 years of industry experience with Cabling; Grounding techniques and Surge Protection.
• Excellent knowledge of fundamental Electrical Engineering Principles: Power circuits design; Analog and Digital Electronic circuits including Microprocessors & Telecommunications circuits.
• Proficient in engineering tools: CAD system (AutoCAD Electrical); Multi-meter; Oscilloscope and Protocol Analyzers.
• Professional communication skills to convey messages without ambiguity.
• Professional writing skills to prepare documents and work packages in a clear and concise format.
• Ability to follow directions and work instructions, and to use good judgement in assigned work.
• Ability to present pros and cons for various courses of action.
• Keep track of progress on all assigned tasks.
• Verify that all assigned work has been completed accurately.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• At least 2 years of experience in the Railway Signalling industry.
• Experience in formulating or contributing to the development of new designs.
• Exposure to devising and running tests to verify functionality, and identifying and solving problems.
• Review applicable specifications, standards, rules, etc. and ensure appropriate actions resulting from this review have been taken.
• Implement designs using good design practice and applicable standards and guidelines.
• Proficient in the skills and current with the technology of the discipline.
• Make efficient re-use of existing designs.
• Eligible for PEO certification.
