About The RoleWe are looking for an Electrical Engineer to provide technical expertise and support in the areas of maintenance, reliability, engineering, continuous improvement project scoping, compliance activities with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) requirements, and lifecycle analysis. The Power Operations team, based in Kitimat, oversees the critical infrastructure, including rectifiers and associated systems, that ensure the reliable distribution of power to meet the smelter’s operational demands.

Reporting to the Asset Management Superintendent and working a desirable Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:
- Responsible for the safety of yourself and your team, in accordance with Rio Tinto health, environment, safety and community standards.
- The leader and main point of contact for Maintenance and Operational Engineering for high, medium, and low voltage assets in the Power Operations department.
- Leading the continuous improvement of Asset Management framework using SAP (CMMS), including but not limited to the development and maintenance of asset hierarchy, maintenance strategies and tactics, task lists, work procedures, bill of materials, spare parts, etc.
- Owning continuous improvement processes for the Power Operations department by monitoring and auditing the maintenance Work Management for the area, based on KPIs, and suggesting corrective actions as necessary.
- Analysing abnormal conditions for the high and medium voltage assets, undertaking necessary investigations and providing clear recommendations for management action.
- The main point of contact for maintenance crews and capital project contractors and consultants, able to develop necessary scope of works, supervise field works and perform necessary quality control and assurance.
- Supporting a critical 24/7 operation, with sporadic attendance off-hours and potential on-call required.
What You’ll Bring- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- Registration or immediate eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer with Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC).
- At least 5 years of experience working as an Electrical Engineer in heavy industry or utility on large high voltage / medium voltage systems ranging from 13kV to 300kV and their low voltage auxiliaries.
- Deep knowledge of medium and high voltage apparatus, like power and instrument transformers, switchgears, breakers, capacitor banks, and their auxiliaries.
- Experience in asset health, condition monitoring and diagnostic techniques for low, medium, and high voltage assets.
- Knowledge of Asset Management frameworks and techniques like RCM, FMEA, TPM, RCA, Asset Integrity Assessments and CMMS tools like SAP.
- Field experience on commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting practices for low, medium, and high voltage equipment.
- Demonstrated passion for building relationships, coaching, and engagement through excellent communication and teamwork.

The base salary range for this role is $98,560 - $147,840 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto.
