The Electrical Engineer provides support in the development, acquisition, execution, and operation of renewable energy projects. The Electrical Engineer will manage electrical engineering tasks related to renewable energy projects. The incumbent will lead and manage projects associated with both existing and new hydro, wind, solar and storage projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Controls and optimizes cash management, in collaboration with Accounting.
Lead and manage renewable power generation development and improvement projects, to meet the Company’s strategic objectives from an electrical perspective.
Develop departmental practices with a focus on sound engineering practices, including templates, standards, and standard operating procedures.
Review and assess engineering of project designs.
Manage and support multidisciplinary teams of engineers and project managers to successfully support project stakeholders, including Business Development and Operations teams.
Manage third-party engineering firms, including preparing scopes of work and evaluating proposals.
Prepare management presentations and recommendation memos.
Provide technical expertise for power generation equipment operation and maintenance at all existing power plants.
Work with project engineers/managers within the group, as well as with external consultants, to achieve assigned objectives.
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
Professional Engineer or Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec, or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
At least 5 years of relevant experience performing engineering duties in the field of renewable energy (experience with wind or hydro would be preferred) or in an industrial sector.
Experience managing external engineering firms, including preparation of RFP documentation and evaluating proposals.
At least 3 years of experience managing an engineering team.
Experience preparing engineering drawings (wind, hydro, battery storage, and solar).
Experience developing and maintaining engineering best practices, templates, quality assurance, and SOPs.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough understanding of code requirements in Québec or other jurisdictions (Ontario, New York).
Available for travel in Canada and the United States (25% of time).

Thorough understanding of project design parameters and requirements.
Understanding of utility interconnection requirements.

Experience with Microsoft Office suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Project.
Able to navigate uncertainty and to manage stress well.
Demonstrated proficiency in both French and English is a plus.
Experience preparing PSCAD or PSSE models is a plus.
Understanding of or interest in operations would be an asset.
