Student Marketing and Recruitment Officer

Primary Purpose: The Student Marketing and Recruitment Officer is essential in advancing the USask College of Engineering's enrolment objectives by enhancing the diversity, quality, and quantity of the student body through innovative marketing strategies. This role involves developing targeted marketing materials and initiatives to engage prospective and current students, promoting the unique value of engineering degrees, and fostering connections within the college student community to create an inclusive and supportive educational environment.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Dean of the College of Engineering, the Student Marketing and Recruitment Officer will be a vital and fully integrated member of the college’s External Relations team. The position will work synergistically with the college’s Marketing and Communications Specialist to ensure all public-facing material aligns with the college’s strategic goals and messaging. This position will collaborate closely with the Engineering Student Center (ESC), graduate commons (GC), and key roles within the TLSE and CGPS central units to develop and implement a cohesive engineering recruitment strategy that optimizes resources and minimizes redundancy.

The Specialist will be responsible for strategically conceptualizing and creating marketing materials that effectively engage both prospective and current students throughout all phases of their educational journey. The primary target audiences for this role include youth from kindergarten to grade 12, parents, and individuals seeking to advance their education by completing a degree at the college.

This position involves implementing targeted initiatives designed to attract a diverse pool of domestic and international students, with a particular focus on female and Indigenous candidates. The Specialist will clearly articulate the unique value and benefits of pursuing an engineering degree at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, the Specialist will actively promote the college’s diverse programs, including STEM youth camps, co-op opportunities, and various degree offerings, ensuring that all marketing efforts are inclusive and thoughtfully tailored to meet the needs and aspirations of both prospective and existing students.

A critical aspect of this role is to establish strategic materials and communication channels that keep the current student population engaged, informed, and connected to the college community, thereby fostering a vibrant and supportive educational environment. Through these efforts, the Specialist will play a key role in enhancing the overall student experience and contributing to the college's enrolment objectives.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

  1. Marketing Strategy Development: Develop and implement innovative marketing strategies to enhance the quantity, quality, and diversity of the student body for the College of Engineering that align with USask content and recruitment strategies.
  2. Enrolment & Engagement Marketing Initiatives: Design and execute targeted marketing campaigns aimed at attracting a diverse pool of prospective students and keeping the current student population engaged.
  3. Content Creation: Strategically conceptualize and produce engaging marketing materials, including brochures, digital content, and promotional videos, that effectively communicate the value of engineering programs (youth outreach, co-op placements, undergraduate and graduate programs).
  4. Social Media Engagement: Manage and enhance the college’s social media presence to promote programs, events, and initiatives, ensuring content is relevant and engaging for target audiences.
  5. Website Management: Manage and enhance the college’s website presence to promote programs, events, and initiatives, ensuring content is relevant and engaging for target audiences and ensure PAWS reflects student-focused interface for academic policies and procedures.
  6. Analysis, Evaluation, and Reporting: Conduct market research and analyze recruitment data to assess the effectiveness of marketing strategies and initiatives making data-driven adjustments as necessary to achieve enrolment goals and providing regular reports to the People Leader.
  7. Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about trends in higher education marketing and recruitment, making recommendations for improvements to strategies and practices based on industry best practices.
  8. CRM Utilization: Utilize CRM systems and marketing automation tools to track prospective student interactions, manage recruitment campaigns, and streamline communication efforts.
  9. Budget Management: Assist in managing the budget for related marketing initiatives, ensuring resources are allocated effectively and efficiently.
  10. Training and Development: Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to student recruitment and marketing.

Education: A relevant undergraduate degree is required. A combination of education and significant relevant work experience may be considered.

Experience: Five years of directly related experience with a demonstrated progression in level of responsibility. Student-focused experience within a post-secondary environment is highly desired as is experience with marketing, data analysis, market research, video/digital media production, and relationship/partnership development. Knowledge of academic programming and processes in a post-secondary environment such as admission, award application, registration, and student support services is required.

  • Market Research and Data Analysis: Proficiency in conducting market research and analyzing data to inform recruitment strategies and assess effectiveness.
  • CRM and Marketing Automation Familiarity: Experience with CRM systems and marketing automation tools to streamline recruitment efforts.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity and experience with Microsoft software suite, Adobe Premier Pro, Mailchimp, Canva, and various social media and technology platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Discord, Youtube, etc.
  • Video Production Skills: Familiarity with video production and editing as a marketing tool to create engaging content for prospective students.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust strategies and approaches in response to changing recruitment landscapes and priorities.
  • Student Experience Orientation: Commitment to ensuring a positive experience throughout the education journey to prospective and current students.
