Guide Dog Mobility Instructor – Bilingual (French/English)
One year contract – Salary $70,000

We’re looking for a mission-driven Bilingual (English/French) Guide Dog Mobility Instructor who is passionate about creating more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communities across Canada where people with low vision have unlimited opportunities and can experience life free from barriers and discrimination.
Responsibilities
- Implement and deliver training courses to program participants, which may include staff colleagues and apprentices.
- Ensure trained guide dogs are suitably paired with program participants by understanding the dog’s temperament and skills.
- Train dogs according to established standards and specific program principles.
- Assess and recommend specific dogs for the training program based on their attributes.
- Provide necessary aftercare services to support mobility and dog welfare.
- Develop a tailored mobility plan to meet participants' needs and expectations.
- Provide ongoing written reports that enhance quality control and contribute to a historical summary of each dog.
- Act as an ambassador for CNIB Guide Dogs, promoting a professional public image.
Who You Are
Education and Certifications
- Degree or diploma in a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- GDMI qualification or certificate recognized by the International Guide Dog Federation (IGDF).
Experience and Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and French.
- Experience and knowledge of best practice dog training methods.
- Eligible to work in Canada.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Experience working with and training guide dogs for the blind and partially sighted community.
- Experience working with people with disabilities.
- Able to apply theoretical and practical knowledge of teaching to people with disabilities.
- Able to undertake physical demands of the role, including walking long distances.
- Collaborative team contributor with the ability to work independently.
- Personal or professional experience relating to blindness is an asset.
- Experience with assistive technology and accessible environments is an asset.
