Fitness for Service Analyst

The Fitness for Service Analyst is responsible for performing computational mechanics and reliability assessments for nuclear components such as fuel channels, feeders, steam generators, piping, vessels, and so on. The assessments are performed to demonstrate sufficient safety margins and to ensure these components are fit for service. The position requires one or multiple technical skills in the following areas: solid mechanics, fracture and damage mechanics, materials science, fuel channel/piping design and analysis, fluid structure interaction analysis, and reliability assessments.

Your role within the team:

  • Work in the areas of computational mechanics and reliability assessment.
  • With minimal supervision, perform most assignments based on instructions given to produce expected results.
  • Demonstrate competence in the conventional aspects of at least one engineering field or discipline.
  • Plan and conduct their own work requiring initiative and judgement in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation, and modification of standard techniques and procedures.
  • Devise new approaches to problems in their engineering specialty.

The ideal candidate:

  • Must have relevant Honors degree in Engineering from a university of recognized standing with a preference for post-graduate degree(s).
  • Must have superior technical written skills and the ability to effectively interface with internal staff, project management team, and customers.
  • Must have experience in performing linear and nonlinear finite element analyses using ABAQUS software.
  • Must have coding skills using one of the programming languages: Python, C++, VBA, Matlab, or FORTRAN.
  • Preferred experience in fitness-for-service assessment using standards such as API-579, BS7910, R5/R6, ASME Section XI, etc.
  • Prior experience performing leak before break analysis, high energy line break assessment, and/or probabilistic fracture mechanics analysis is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of damage mechanics, materials science, fuel channel/piping design and analysis, fluid structure interaction analysis, and reliability assessments are preferred.
  • Ability to understand and consistently meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Effective problem solver with a results-oriented approach and strong planning and organization skills, as applied to self-managing multiple, simultaneous work assignments.
  • Ability to network, build relationships, and plan, with an orientation toward service, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Willing to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
