Position Summary

In this role, your responsibilities as an Operator-Chief Power Engineer will include general supervision and accountability for the management of the boiler and thermal liquid heating systems at the Acheson facility. You will also direct and supervise the shift engineers in safe operations while maintaining accurate records.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Directly supervise daily activities relating to heating systems and Shift Engineers.
  2. Ensure the logbook is updated and maintained daily.
  3. Maintain an accurate record of power plant checks.
  4. Conduct checks at least every 2 hours while a heater is in operation.
  5. Maintain logbooks relating to operation and maintenance of the boiler and thermal liquid heating systems.
  6. Maintain records of testing of servicing safety valves and other safety devices.
  7. Conduct water treatment testing, chemical adjustments, filter changes, and maintenance of the makeup water skid.
  8. Identify areas to improve the plant's efficiency.
  9. Implement SOPs and develop training competencies for operator sign-offs.
  10. Develop LOTO packages for all maintenance work associated with heating systems on site.
  11. Audit 6S identified areas of the plant.
  12. Assist in maintenance planning by identifying priority requests.
  13. Participate in all emergency situations, accidents, and spills.
  14. Maintain effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  15. The schedule would be Monday-Thursday (6am-4pm).
  16. Other duties assigned by plant Managers.

Qualifications

  1. Hold a Class 3 Power Engineer Certificate – Registered with ABSA.
  2. Detailed knowledge of ABSA’s Acts, Regulations, and codes.
  3. Minimum of 5 years of experience as Class 3 Power Engineer.
  4. Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  5. Strong communicator with leadership experience.
  6. Efficient in computer programs such as Excel, Word; JDE experience is an asset.
  7. Experience in an asphalt plant environment or operational process is required.
