Are you a self-motivated, imaginative leader with a keen interest and skill in working collaboratively to realize the vision of Toronto’s new 10-year Action Plan for Culture? Are you a skilled project manager with experience in the cultural realm, who can capably adapt to competing and shifting demands and priorities, while successfully leading and delivering projects and programs on time, budget and scope?
The Senior Project Manager position may be one for you. Reporting to the Director, Arts and Culture Services in the City’s Economic Development and Culture Division, the Senior Project Manager will lead the implementation of “Culture Connects: An Action Plan for Culture in Toronto (2025-2035)”, and support the Director in delivering on other priority projects related to arts and culture. “Culture Connects” includes 28 actions grouped into four priority areas, with a vision of building a city where everyone, everywhere, can discover, experience and create culture. The Senior Project Manager will collaborate with City staff, partners in the cultural sector and communities across the city to develop and implement programs and initiatives that support the objectives of “Culture Connects.”
You will lead complex, multi-stakeholder initiatives and actions, utilizing advanced project and stakeholder management skills, technical expertise and consultation strategies. This role will include developing and managing budgets, budget processes and cost controls, and identifying and pursuing revenue generation opportunities. You'll demonstrate your ability to function successfully in a complex, multi-stakeholder municipal environment like ours, as you ensure effective teamwork and communication and lead high quality work and excellent performance. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with outstanding relationship management, partnership-building and issues management skills.
This is a highly collaborative mandate that will see you creating and managing interdivisional and interdisciplinary teams to plan and advance major projects including direct supervision of staff while addressing political, community, business and other stakeholder interests. You'll negotiate and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and provide strategic advice for projects, activities, and assignments, from program development and resource allocation, and lead monitoring and evaluation of results and impacts.
Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and best practices, you'll ensure that programs and processes consider developments within the cultural sector, corporate policies and practices, legislation and initiatives by other levels of government. You will also manage public engagement, write and prepare reports to City Council and Standing Committees, and deliver presentations to Committees of Council and/or senior management, and at community consultations and events, as required.
While already technically competent with various software programs, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and MS Projects, you're prepared to learn, understand, and apply new technologies. Familiarity with government legislation in occupational health and safety is essential in this role, as is the ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity, and respectful workplaces.
Lived experience as a member of an Indigenous, Black and/or equity-deserving group, with a strong understanding of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion obtained through lived experience and demonstrated through daily interactions, is an asset.
