THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Finance & CFO, the Vice President, Finance will be responsible for providing strategic oversight and leadership to BCI’s corporate accounting, investment accounting, procurement, and financial planning & analysis teams. The Vice President will lead a team of 50+ finance professionals to ensure these teams have the appropriate systems, processes, and skills to support the needs of the business.

More broadly, the Vice President will play a key role in advancing the Finance department’s goal to be a trusted advisor to its internal and external clients by providing timely, accurate, and relevant financial information and analysis. They will align the various “branches” of the function to ensure consistency and maximize impact.

WHAT YOU BRING

Must have:

  • Minimum of 15 years’ progressive experience in a team leadership role or similar within the financial services industry.
  • Thorough understanding of the issues relevant to investment accounting such as the use of derivatives, valuation of investment instruments, implementation of new products and strategies, and related operational management techniques.
  • Experience in all aspects of corporate accounting and financial planning including consolidation, reporting, and budgeting.
  • Experience leading a procurement and strategic sourcing function to drive enterprise value is considered an asset.
  • Excellent and demonstrated analytical skills, sound judgement, and the ability to think through complex problems and recommend informed solutions.
  • Service mindset in building, maintaining, and supporting stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience driving change and being a key participant in culture strategy.
  • Solid working knowledge of MS Office, Excel, with an understanding of related financial and technology systems.
  • Experience leading finance transformation and finance system implementations is considered an asset.
  • Initiative, results orientation, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • CPA designation or equivalent.

Preferred:

  • CFA, CAIA, or MBA in Finance.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Finance department is part of BCI Operations and is responsible for investment and corporate accounting, valuations, as well as financial statements and financial reporting to our clients. The team also leads BCI’s budgeting process, tax structuring and tax compliance, finance client engagement, finance operations, procurement, and investment performance and analytics. Working with our internal business partners, auditors, and external advisors, the Finance department strives to be a trusted advisor to our internal and external clients by providing timely, accurate, and relevant financial information and analysis.

WHAT YOU WILL GET TO DO

  • As a member of the Finance Steering Committee, provides leadership and strategic direction to the Finance team including influencing and supporting department and organizational strategy and engagement, and builds strong relationships with its key stakeholders within BCI.
  • Oversees corporate and investment accounting, corporate financial planning and analysis, and procurement branches within Finance, empowering them to improve the day-to-day operations through the development, execution, and continuous improvement of technology, processes, and procedures, ensuring alignment with data governance principles.
  • Sets Key Performance and Risk Indicators for the function to ensure alignment with BCI and Finance business plans and to proactively monitor and forecast business changes impacting delivery.
  • Participates in the development and execution of short- and long-term strategies and initiatives for Finance (e.g., systems and process initiatives).
  • Oversees team growth by refining roles and responsibilities, nurturing talent for current and future positions through customized support and coaching, and proactively addressing feedback from employee engagement surveys and other sources.
  • Ensures sound internal control practices are in place and aligned with financial policies, directives, and procedures.
  • Provides leadership for strong cross-functional relationships and initiatives with all asset classes and departments.
  • Leverages networks and peer relationships to ensure alignment with best practices and tackle challenges in innovative ways.
  • Oversees the preparation of materials for the Executive Management Team, Audit Committee, and Board and participates in Audit Committee where relevant.

WHERE YOU WILL WORK

Work from our downtown Victoria office. We are an in-person collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely 1-day a week.

SALARY RANGE

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $180,000 - $230,000.

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered, and consideration to internal equity.

We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.
