Job Description

As the Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will work with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and validate new products from concept to launch. You will mentor new talent, especially entry-level engineers, with the possibility of mentoring co-op students. You will become a subject matter expert and serve as a mentor for our new engineering talent.

Your design work will support future state product development and strategic manufacturing roadmap creation.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in engineering with 5+ years of process development experience, expertise in manufacturing workflow and efficiency improvement, hands-on skills in equipment design and specification, proficiency in 3-D modeling software (Solid Edge or SolidWorks), Microsoft Project, and Office Suite, cross-functional experience with sourcing, quality, and manufacturing, as well as strong management, strategic development, and communication skills.

This role is located onsite in our Butler, IN facility supporting our Therma-Tru Doors brand. Relocation assistance is available.

What you will be doing:

  • Learn and apply lean process development tools, systematic problem solving and critical thinking to new process-product development and continuous improvement projects.
  • Successfully execute the development and implementation of new processes necessary for new product introductions and product changes.
  • Understand and actively manage process design requirements, conduct system PFMEA’s, design reviews and utilize other robust engineering practices such as DOE’s, tolerance stack-ups, limit testing, FEA, etc.
  • Liaison with corporate product design, supply chain, vendors, and manufacturing staff for the specification for equipment development.
  • Develop DVP’s, coordinate testing, and provide hands-on troubleshooting to ensure process-product requirements are met.
  • Provide manufacturing and operations support throughout product development phases using DFM.
  • Work closely with the Quality department to address any outstanding internal and external quality and product issues.
  • Support cross-functional team members by mentoring areas of expertise for technical questions and solutions in at least one engineering or product area.
  • Set examples for excellence in engineering practice and rigor by successfully coaching junior engineers inside and outside of peer reviews as well as design reviews.
  • Act as a manufacturing pioneer/visionary/innovation lead, bringing new technology and solutions to the team through online and in-person research at other facilities and or trade shows.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years in process development, skilled in developing manufacturing processes through product analysis, testing methods, and vendor collaboration.
  • Experience in improving manufacturing efficiency by analyzing workflow, space requirements, and equipment layout, with a background in multidisciplinary manufacturing settings.
  • Proficient in 3-D Parametric Solid Modeling (Solid Edge or SolidWorks preferred), Microsoft Project, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Significant cross-functional experience with sourcing, quality, and manufacturing in process and product development, alongside strong management skills with internal and external resources.
  • Expertise in equipment specification and design, with excellent written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Strong strategic development and documentation/reporting skills, combined with a hands-on approach and a proactive desire to prototype and troubleshoot.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in automated systems, robotic applications, and implementation/programming, with experience in plastic materials (fiberglass composites preferred) and manufacturing methods.
  • Predictive engineering and analysis experience using finite element analysis (FEA), hand calculations, or tools like Ansys and Abaqus.
  • Experience in developing programs/systems and team development to support them (e.g., APQP/PDCA), with a background in fenestration products or building materials (doors, windows, wall panels, etc.).
  • Experience interfacing with intellectual property counsel and collaborating with new product development design and launch teams.
