Purpose of Role: Weir Marine Engineering is seeking an Electronic Technologist to join our Electronic Measurements and Control Group. This is a permanent position based in LaSalle, QC. The role involves supporting the engineering team in the development and testing of various circuits, acquisition systems, and control systems. The Technologist will be expected to provide support in the Electronic Lab, as well as in Shipboard Trials and Surveys, Equipment Calibration and Trials, Procedural Writing, and Equipment Maintenance activities. The position primarily involves laboratory work, with occasional shipboard assignments. There may also be occasional requirements to perform work outdoors or onboard ships, along with short-duration travel to other test locations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Data Collection and Trials: Perform data acquisition both in-house and occasionally in the field, including on ships and submarines. This involves operating equipment, recording trial data, and reporting results. Install and wire sensors for various parameters including shock, vibration, sound, strain, temperature, pressure, flow, and electrical measurements. Additionally, conduct analysis on trial data and prepare detailed technical reports.

  • Electronic Design and Troubleshooting: Design, test, and troubleshoot electronic circuits, assemblies, and complex systems. This includes tasks such as wiring connections and soldering.

  • Maintenance and Calibration: Carry out regular maintenance and calibration of test equipment, ensuring compliance with internal quality procedures and international standards, including ISO 9001. Prepare the relevant documentation as part of the process.

  • Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration: Collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and technologists, providing technical support and developing solutions to engineering challenges.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • Mandatory: Must obtain a Government of Canada security clearance, which necessitates Canadian citizenship and a minimum of 10 years of continuous residence in Canada.

  • Mandatory: Technical Diploma of College Studies (DCS) or equivalent experience.

  • Desirable: Previous experience with Electronics, circuits, sensors and instrument.

  • Desirable: Proficient in technical writing in English and ability to communicate effectively at all levels with peers, supervisors and clients; Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint). Bilingual (English – French) would be an asset.
