This job posting is for an existing vacancy and is intended to fill a current position within our organization.

We are currently looking for a Kitchen Team Lead to join our team of committed professionals. This full-time summer contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s John Island Camp location in Spanish, Ontario.

Under the leadership of the Kitchen Manager, the Kitchen Team Lead is responsible for supporting the Kitchen Manager in directing the Prep Cooks and Dishwashers. This position supports food preparation, meal service, complying with health and food safety and cleanliness standards, and the accommodation of dietary restrictions and allergies for campers, clients, and staff. The Kitchen Team Lead also executes the responsibilities of the Kitchen Manager when they are unable to be in the kitchen.

START DATE: June 25, 2025

LOCATION: Spanish, ON

RATE OF PAY: $700.00 per week

Major Responsibilities

  1. Maintain and clean work space that adheres to health and safety guidelines
  2. Support in the food preparation, meal service, and daily cleaning
  3. Support menu planning and inventory maintenance
  4. Support ordering of supplies
  5. Oversee and provide guidance to Prep Cooks and Dishwashers in the absence of the Kitchen Manager
  6. Support the coordination, scheduling, training and support of kitchen staff
  7. Adhere to the YMCA policies and procedures, including the Hiring Process Guidelines
Qualifications
  1. Possession of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent preferred *for education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES with their application
  2. Food Handler’s Certification
  3. Health assessment from Medical Professional and Immunizations Record (or exemption) as recommended and approved by the local Medical Officer of Health
  4. Current Standard First Aid with CPR (Level C)
  5. WHMIS Certification
  6. Good interpersonal skills
  7. Knowledge of appropriate health and food safety standards
  8. Basic kitchen and cooking skills
  9. Good time management skills
  10. Able to lift a maximum of 50lb
  11. Excellent interpersonal skills
  12. Knowledge of appropriate health and safety standards and code
  13. Bilingualism in both official languages considered an asset
  14. Current and satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
