This job posting is for an existing vacancy and is intended to fill a current position within our organization.

We are currently looking for a Camper Care Manager to join our team of committed professionals. This full-time summer contract position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s YMCA John Island Camp location in Spanish, Ontario.

Under the leadership of the Director of John Island Camp, the Camper Care Manager is responsible for the mental and emotional wellbeing of all campers throughout their time in programs at John Island Camp. They are responsible for assisting counsellors to support campers with behavioural challenges and stepping in when homesickness is affecting a camper.

START DATE: May 5, 2025
LOCATION: Spanish, ON
RATE OF PAY: $800.00 per weekMajor Responsibilities
  • Conduct well-being check-ins with campers
  • Assess all mental and emotional well-being needs on site along with treatment in consultation with the on-call physician
  • Work collaboratively with the Wellness Manager and counsellors to ensure that camper mental and emotional needs are met
  • Support campers in managing homesickness
  • Manage crisis situations and provide mental health first aid as required
  • Provide training and support in behaviour management
  • Work collaboratively to ensure safety and training needs are met in terms of behaviour management
  • Maintain documentation and summary reports for well-being check-ins and Wellness Centre visits
  • Perform cleaning tasks to ensure the cleanliness of the Wellness Centre
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS
  • Diploma or Certificate in Child and Youth Development, Social Work, Therapeutic Recreation, Mental Health and Addictions, or working towards obtaining any of these or related credentials
  • Experience with behaviour management, providing mental and emotional care to camper aged children and young adults, and promoting health and wellness related engagement while at camp
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Crisis management and mental health first aid skills
  • Knowledge in common strategies to manage homesickness and well-being in a camp setting
  • Solid knowledge of appropriate health and safety standards and regulations
  • Current and Satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector
